Disassembly [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Open the 2 terminal caps.

    2. Remove the 2 nuts and wire harness from the starter assembly.
  2. REMOVE HARNESS 
    1. Remove the nut and disconnect the lead wire from terminal M.

      *a Lead Wire
      *b Nut
      *c Noise Filter Harness
    2. Disconnect the noise filter harness from the repair service starter kit.
    3. Disengage the harness clamp.

    4. Disconnect the 2 harness connectors to remove the harness.
  3. REMOVE STARTER INRUSH CURRENT REDUCTION RELAY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and starter inrush current reduction relay from the starter drive housing assembly.

  4. REMOVE REPAIR SERVICE STARTER KIT 
    1. While holding the repair service starter kit to the starter drive housing assembly, remove the 2 nuts.

    2. While lifting the rear of the magnet switch, remove the hook from the pinion drive lever, then remove the repair service starter kit.

      *a Plunger
      *b Hook
      *c Pinion Drive Lever
      NOTE:

      Do not drop the plunger when removing the repair service starter kit.

  5. REMOVE STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a T25 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the 2 through bolts, and pull out the starter yoke assembly together with the starter commutator end frame assembly.

      *2 Starter Commutator End Frame Assembly
  6. REMOVE STARTER COMMUTATOR END FRAME ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.

      *1 Starter Commutator End Frame Assembly
      *2 Starter Yoke Assembly
      *a Lead Wire
    2. While holding down the lead wire, remove the starter commutator end frame assembly from the starter yoke assembly.
  7. REMOVE STARTER BRUSH HOLDER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, hold the brush spring back and disconnect the 4 brushes.

    2. Remove the starter brush holder assembly from the starter armature assembly.
  8. REMOVE STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the starter armature assembly from the starter yoke assembly.

  9. REMOVE STARTER ARMATURE PLATE 
    1. Remove the starter armature plate from the starter drive housing assembly or starter yoke assembly.

      *3 Starter Armature Plate
  10. REMOVE PLANETARY GEAR 
    1. Remove the 3 planetary gears from the starter drive housing assembly.

  11. REMOVE RUBBER SEAL 
    1. Remove the rubber seal from the starter drive housing assembly.
