WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Toyota Highlander, 2018 Toyota Highlander, and 2017 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0351-13, P0352-13, P0353-13, P0354-13, P0355-13 OR P0356-13) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    5. Shuffle the arrangement of the ignition coil assemblies (among No. 1 to No. 6 cylinders).
      NOTE:

      Do not change the location of the connectors.

    6. Perform a simulation test.
    7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    8. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      Same DTC output A
      Different ignition coil DTC output B

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the ignition coil assembly.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [11/2016 - ]

    Result: 

    B 

    REPLACE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2016 - ] 

    Result: 

    A 

    Go to next step 

  2. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (POWER SOURCE OF IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY)

    (to Ignition Coil Assembly)
    1. Disconnect the ignition coil assembly connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C70-1 (+B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C71-1 (+B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C72-1 (+B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C73-1 (+B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C74-1 (+B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C75-1 (+B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the ignition coil assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C70-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C71-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C72-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C73-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C74-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C75-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the ignition coil assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C70-2 (IGF1) - C1-112 (IGF1) Always Below 1 Ω
      C71-2 (IGF2) - C1-80 (IGF2) Always Below 1 Ω
      C72-2 (IGF1) - C1-112 (IGF1) Always Below 1 Ω
      C73-2 (IGF2) - C1-80 (IGF2) Always Below 1 Ω
      C74-2 (IGF1) - C1-112 (IGF1) Always Below 1 Ω
      C75-2 (IGF2) - C1-80 (IGF2) Always Below 1 Ω
      C70-3 (IGT1) - C1-71 (IGT1) Always Below 1 Ω
      C71-3 (IGT2) - C1-36 (IGT2) Always Below 1 Ω
      C72-3 (IGT3) - C1-70 (IGT3) Always Below 1 Ω

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SEMICONDUCTOR PWR INTEGRATION ECU - IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the semiconductor pwr integration ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the ignition coil assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1G-3 - C70-1 (+B) Always Below 1 Ω
      1G-3 - C71-1 (+B) Always Below 1 Ω
      1G-3 - C72-1 (+B) Always Below 1 Ω
      1G-3 - C73-1 (+B) Always Below 1 Ω
      1G-3 - C74-1 (+B) Always Below 1 Ω
      1G-3 - C75-1 (+B) Always Below 1 Ω
      1G-3 or C70-1 (+B) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      1G-3 or C71-1 (+B) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      1G-3 or C72-1 (+B) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
