On-Vehicle Inspection [11/2016 - ]: Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Toyota Highlander, 2018 Toyota Highlander, and 2017 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- CHECK COOLING FAN SYSTEM
- Check and ensure the following conditions:
- The ignition switch is off.
- The engine coolant temperature is less than 95°C (203°F).
- The battery voltage is between 11 to 14 V.
- The A/C switch is off.
- Connect the pickup of a clamp-on ammeter around either of the 2 wires for the cooling fan motor.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait for approximately 10 seconds. Check that the cooling fans are not operating.
- Start the engine. Check that the cooling fans are not operating with the engine idling.
HINT:
- Make sure that the engine coolant temperature is less than 95°C (203°F).
- Turn the A/C switch off.
- Check that the cooling fans operate when the A/C switch is turned on.
HINT:
- Adjust the air conditioning control to the maximum setting.
- Adjust the blower speed to the high setting.
- Measure the current while the cooling fan motors are operating.
