DTC P162B-87: Lost Communication with Battery Monitor Module Missing Message [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION CONDITION 
    1. Check installation condition of the battery state sensor assembly.
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    INSTALL THE BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY CORRECTLY.  Refer to INSTALLATION [11/2016 - ] .

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM 
    1. Check the charging system.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [11/2016 - ] .

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE CHARGING SYSTEM 

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the C1 ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the C83 battery state sensor assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the C81 generator assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C83-2 (LIN) or C81-2 (LIN) - C1-135 (LIN) Always Below 1 Ω
      C83-2(LIN), C81-2 (LIN) or C1-135 (LIN) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 
    1. Check that the battery state sensor assembly connector is securely connected.

      OK

      The connector is securely connected.

    2. Disconnect the C83 battery state sensor assembly connector.
    3. Check the connector case and terminals for deformation or corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C83-1 (+B) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY - BATTERY) 

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  5. CLEAR DTCS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check for DTCs, and note down any DTCs that are output.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    7. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    8. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 30 seconds.

    NEXT 

    Go to next step 

  6. CHECK FOR DTCS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Allow the engine to idle for approximately 17 minutes or more.
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    6. Check for DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      Only DTC P162B87 is output. A
      DTC P161A87 and P162B87 are output. B
      DTCs are not output. C

    Result: 

    REPLACE BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY.  Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ] .

    Result: 

    REPLACE ECM.  Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ] .

    Result: 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS.  Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [11/2016 - ] .
