DTC P2796-12: Electromagnetic Oil Pump Circuit Short to Battery [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P279612) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs

      Powertrain > Stop and Start > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P279612 is output A
      DTCs P279612 and P323A19 are output B

    Result: 

    See step  5

    Result: 

    Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EGND TERMINAL VOLTAGE)

    *a Component with harness connected
    (Engine Stop and Start ECU)
    - -
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
      Tester Connection Condition Result Proceed to
      F123-8 (EGND) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 10 to 14 V A
      Below 1 V B

    Result: 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK.  Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2016 - ] .

    Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EGND TERMINAL VOLTAGE)

    *a Component with harness connected
    (Engine Stop and Start ECU)
    - -
    1. Disconnect the transmission wire connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
      Tester Connection Condition Result Result
      F123-8 (EGND) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 10 to 14 V A
      Below 1 V B

    Result: 

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE 

    Result: 

    Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EGND TERMINAL VOLTAGE)

    (to Engine Stop and Start ECU)
    1. Disconnect the engine stop and start ECU connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
      Tester Connection Condition Result Proceed to
      F123-8 (EGND) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 10 to 14 V A
      Below 1 V B

    Result: 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ENGINE STOP AND START ECU (EGND) - TRANSMISSION WIRE (EMP-)) 

    Result: 

    REPLACE ENGINE STOP AND START ECU.  Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ] .

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE STOP AND START ECU - OTHER TERMINALS)

    *a Component with harness connected
    (Engine Stop and Start ECU)
    - -
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F123-9 (EMOP) - Other terminals* Always 10 kΩ or higher
      • *: Except F123-8 (EGND) terminal
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    GO TO DTC P323A19.  Refer to DTC P323A-19: Backup Boost Converter "A" Circuit Current Above Threshold [11/2016 - ] .

    Result: 

    NG 

    Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE STOP AND START ECU - OTHER TERMINALS)

    *a Component with harness connected
    (Engine Stop and Start ECU)
    - -
    1. Disconnect the transmission wire connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F123-9 (EMOP) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE 

    Result: 

    NG 

    Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE STOP AND START ECU - TRANSMISSION WIRE) 
    1. Disconnect the engine stop and start ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the transmission wire connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F123-9 (EMOP) or C62-29 (EMP+) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ENGINE STOP AND START ECU.  Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ] .

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
