DTC P0850-12: Park/Neutral Switch Circuit Short to Battery; DTC P085014: Park/Neutral Switch Circuit Short to Ground or Open [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SHIFT SW STATUS) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Data List / Shift SW Status (P, R, N, D Range).

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Shift SW Status (P Range)
      Shift SW Status (R Range)
      Shift SW Status (N Range)
      Shift SW Status (D Range)
    5. In accordance with the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition
      Shift SW Status (P Range) Park/Neutral position switch assembly status OFF or ON OFF: Shift lever not in P
      ON: Shift lever in P
      Shift SW Status (R Range) Park/Neutral position switch assembly status OFF or ON OFF: Shift lever not in R
      ON: Shift lever in R
      Shift SW Status (N Range) Park/Neutral position switch assembly status OFF or ON OFF: Shift lever not in N
      ON: Shift lever in N
      Shift SW Status (D Range) Park/Neutral position switch assembly status OFF or ON OFF: Shift lever not in D or S
      ON: Shift lever in D or S
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    See step  5

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (NEUTRAL POSITION SW) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Data List / Neutral Position SW.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Neutral Position SW
    5. In accordance with the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition
      Neutral Position SW Park/Neutral position switch assembly status OFF or ON OFF: Shift lever not in P or N
      ON: Shift lever in P or N
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK.  Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2016 - ] .

    Result: 

    NG 

    Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly.
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE STOP AND START ECU - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the engine stop and start ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    4. Disconnect the certification ECU (smart key ECU Assembly) connector. (w/ Smart Key System)
    5. Disconnect the ignition or starter switch assembly connector. (w/o Smart Key System)
    6. Remove the ST relay from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.
    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A92-21 (STA) - C14-9 (L) Always Below 1 Ω
      A92-17 (CLL) - C14-4 (B) Always Below 1 Ω
      A92-21 (STA) or C14-9 (L) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A92-17 (CLL) or C14-4 (B) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ENGINE STOP AND START ECU.  Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ] .

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly.
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C1-108 (P) - C14-3 (PL) Always Below 1 Ω
      C1-107 (R) - C14-2 (RL) Always Below 1 Ω
      C1-140 (N) - C14-8 (NL) Always Below 1 Ω
      C1-139 (D) - C14-7 (DL) Always Below 1 Ω
      C1-106 (NSW) - C14-4 (B) Always Below 1 Ω
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM.  Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ] .

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
