DTC B15C4: Airbag Signal Malfunction/Not Input [12/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC (AIRBAG SYSTEM) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and wait for 10 seconds.
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Check the DTC of "AIRBAG SYSTEM".

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2013 - ]

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      DTCs are output B

    Result:  2

    GO TO AIRBAG SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [12/2013 - ] 

    Result:  1

  2. INSPECT DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) (GSW SIGNAL) 
    1. Remove the DCM (Telematics Transceiver) but do not disconnect the connectors.

      *a Component with harness connected
      (DCM (Telematics Transceiver))

      Refer to REMOVAL [12/2013 - 11/2016] Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F35-24 (GSW) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 6.5 to 8.5 V

      Reference Waveform

      Item Condition
      Tester connection F35-24 (GSW) - Body ground
      Tool setting 5.0 V/DIV., 20 ms/DIV.
      Vehicle condition Engine switch on (IG)

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      8.5 V or higher A
      Below 6.5 V B
      6.5 to 8.5 V C

    Result:  2

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FOR OPEN CIRCUIT) 
    1. Remove the airbag sensor assembly but do not disconnect the connectors.

      Refer to REMOVAL [12/2013 - ]

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F38-24 (GSW3) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 8.5 V or higher

      Reference Waveform

      Item Condition
      Tester connection F38-24 (GSW3) - Body ground
      Tool setting 5.0 V/DIV., 20 ms/DIV.
      Vehicle condition Engine switch on (IG)

      (Airbag Sensor Assembly)

      Result

      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    REPLACE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ] 

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FOR SHORT CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the F35 DCM (Telematics Transceiver) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F35-24 (GSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F38-24 (GSW3) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG

    OK

  5. REPLACE DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) 
    1. Replace the DCM (Telematics Transceiver).

      Refer to REMOVAL [12/2013 - 11/2016] Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]

      NOTE:
      • The engine switch must be off.
      • Do not swap the DCM (Telematics Transceiver) with one from another vehicle.

    NEXT 

  6. PERFORM PRL UPDATE 
    1. Perform "PRL UPDATE".

      Refer to PRL UPDATE [12/2013 - ]

    NEXT 

    PERFORM DCM ACTIVATION. Refer to  DCM ACTIVATION [12/2013 - ] 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) - AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F35 DCM (Telematics Transceiver) connector.
    2. Disconnect the F38 airbag sensor assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F35-24 (GSW) - F38-24 (GSW3) Always Below 1 Ω
      F35-24 (GSW) or F38-24 (GSW3) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    REPLACE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ] 

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
