DTC U029A-123: Lost Communication with Hybrid Battery Pack Sensor Module [10/2013 - ]: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2013 - ] .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Only U029A-123 is output. A
      DTCs except U029A-123 are also output. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGCT VOLTAGE) See step   1 

    NG → CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE SENSOR POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT (IGCT, GND) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - BATTERY VOLTAGE SENSOR) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the D104 power management control ECU connector. Refer to REMOVAL [10/2013 - ] .
    3. Remove the rear seat side garnish LH. Refer to REMOVAL [10/2013 - ] .
    4. Disconnect the J13 battery voltage sensor connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D104-32 (BTH+) - J13-1 (BTH+) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D104-33 (BTH-) - J13-4 (BTH-) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      J13-1 (BTH+) - J13-6 (GND) and Body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      J13-4 (BTH-) - J13-6 (GND) and Body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    6. Remove the PM IGCT fuse from the No. 2 engine room relay block.

    7. Remove the AM2 fuse and ECU-IG2 No. 1 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

      *2 AM2 fuse
      *3 ECU-IG2 No. 3 fuse
    8. Disconnect the A53, A54 and D105 power management control ECU connectors.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      D104-32 (BTH+) - A54-5 (+B1) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      NOTE:

      When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.

    10. Install the AM2 fuse and ECU-IG2 No. 1 fuse to the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.
    11. Install the PM IGCT fuse to the No. 2 engine room relay block.
    12. Reconnect the J13 battery voltage sensor connector.
    13. Install the rear seat side garnish LH.
    14. Reconnect the A53, A54, D104 and D105 power management control ECU connectors.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - BATTERY VOLTAGE SENSOR) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the rear seat side garnish LH. Refer to REMOVAL [10/2013 - ] .
    3. Disconnect the J13 battery voltage sensor connector.
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J13-1 (BTH+) - J13-6 (GND) Power switch on (IG) 2.3 to 2.7 V
      J13-4 (BTH-) - J13-6 (GND) Power switch on (IG) 2.3 to 2.7 V

      (to Battery Voltage Sensor)
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the battery voltage sensor connector and power management control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J13-1 (BTH+) - J13-4 (BTH-) Power switch off 4.4 to 5.4 kΩ

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Battery Voltage Sensor)

      HINT: 

      Resistance becomes 2.0 kΩ or less when there is a short circuit in the power management control ECU.

    10. Reconnect the J13 battery voltage sensor connector.
    11. Install the rear seat side garnish LH.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → See step   5 

  5. REPLACE BATTERY VOLTAGE SENSOR. Refer to  COMPONENTS [10/2013 - ] 
  6. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [10/2013 - ] 
  7. GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2013 - ]
