Automatic Transaxle Assembly: Removal: Removal

NOTE:

If automatic transaxle parts are replaced, refer to Parts Replacement Compensation Table to determine if any additional operations are necessary. Refer to PRECAUTION .

  1. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE 

    Refer to REMOVAL

  2. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  3. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 10
  4. DISCONNECT BREATHER PLUG HOSE 
    1. Disengage the clamp and disconnect the breather plug hose from the hose clamp.

  5. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Disengage the clamp and disconnect the engine wire.
    3. Remove the bolt and separate the ground wire.

    4. Disengage the 3 clamps and disconnect the engine wire.
    5. Turn the lock lever and disconnect the connector from the TCM.

      *1 Lock Lever
    6. Disengage the 4 clamps and disconnect the engine wire.
  6. REMOVE TRANSFER STIFFENER PLATE RH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6
  7. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 11 bolts and transaxle.

      NOTE:

      To prevent damage to the knock pins, do not pry between the transaxle and engine.

  8. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the torque converter from the automatic transaxle.

  9. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 9
  10. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and front engine mounting bracket from the automatic transaxle.

    2. Using an E8 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the stud bolt from the automatic transaxle.

  11. REMOVE TCM 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and TCM from the automatic transaxle.

  12. REMOVE OIL COOLER TUBE CLAMP 
  13. REMOVE NO. 1 OIL COOLER OUTLET HOSE 
    1. Slide the hose clip and disconnect the No. 1 oil cooler outlet hose from the oil cooler tube union.

  14. REMOVE NO. 1 OIL COOLER INLET HOSE 
    1. Slide the hose clip and disconnect the No. 1 oil cooler inlet hose from the oil cooler tube union.

  15. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 5 bolts and 5 clamp brackets from the automatic transaxle.

  16. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 transmission control cable bracket from the automatic transaxle.

  17. REMOVE SPEEDOMETER DRIVEN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and speedometer driven hole cover from the automatic transaxle.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the speedometer driven hole cover.
  18. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY  . Refer to INSPECTION - Step 1
