DTC CHG_f069: Rapid Temperature Rise within Charger [09/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK COOLANT LEVEL AT RESERVOIR (FOR DRIVE UNIT) 
    1. Check the coolant level at reservoir (for drive unit). Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [09/2013 - ] .

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING RAV4 EV DIAGNOSTIC TOOL (WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR (FOR DRIVE UNIT)) 
    1. Connect the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool to the No. 2 DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Turn the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Pump Tool / Activate Pump and Valve Control / Powertrain Pump %.
    5. Perform the "Powertrain Pump %" Active Test.
    6. Enter the following menus: Pump Tool Monitor / Powertrain Pump.
    7. Check the "Powertrain Pump" value when performing Activate Pump.

      OK

      There is no difference in the Activate Pump value and Pump Tool Monitor value.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK COOLING FAN SYSTEM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Active Test / Electrical Fan.
    5. Perform the "Electrical Fan" Active Test.

      OK

      The cooling fan and No. 2 cooling fan rotates.

    NG → See step   16 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT RADIATOR ASSEMBLY (FOR DRIVE UNIT) 
    1. Check the deformation and blockage of the radiator (for drive unit).

      OK

      Radiator (for drive unit) does not have deformation or blockage.

    NG → See step   12 

    OK → See step   14 

  5. CHECK COOLANT LOOP PIPING (FOR DRIVE UNIT) 
    1. Check the coolant loop piping (for drive unit) condition. Refer to SYSTEM DIAGRAM [09/2013 - ] .

      OK

      Coolant loop piping (for drive unit) is connected correctly and is not damaged.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE PIPE (COOLANT LOOP FOR DRIVE UNIT) 

    OK → See step   15 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR (FOR DRIVE UNIT) - THERMAL CONTROL ECU)

    1. Disconnect connector D11 from the water pump with motor (for drive unit).

    2. Disconnect connector L30 from the thermal control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D11-4 (PTREQ) - L30-15 (PTREQ) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D11-2 (PTFDB) - L30-5 (PTFDB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D11-3 (GND) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D11-4 (PTREQ) or L30-15 (PTREQ) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher
      D11-2 (PTFDB) or L30-5 (PTFDB) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher

      (to Water Pump with Motor (for Drive Unit))
      *b Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Thermal Control ECU)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR (FOR DRIVE UNIT (POWER SOURCE))

    1. Disconnect connector D11 from the water pump with motor (for drive unit).
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D11-1 (IGCT) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      (to Water Pump with Motor (for Drive Unit))

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. REPLACE WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR (FOR DRIVE UNIT) 
    1. Replace the water pump with motor (for drive unit). Refer to REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] .
    2. Connect the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool to the No. 2 DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    4. Turn the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Pump Tool / Activate Pump and Valve Control / Powertrain Pump %.
    6. Perform the "Powertrain Pump %" Active Test.
    7. Enter the following menus: Pump Tool Monitor / Powertrain Pump.
    8. Check the "Powertrain Pump" value when performing Activate Pump.

      OK

      There is no difference in the Activate Pump value and Pump Tool Monitor value.

    NG → See step   13 

    OK → COMPLETED 

  9. CHECK P/T W/P FUSE

    1. Remove the P/T W/P fuse from the No. 1 motor compartment room relay block and junction block assembly.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      P/T W/P fuse terminals Always Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 No. 1 Motor Compartment Room Relay Block and Junction Block Assembly
      *2 P/T W/P Fuse

    NG → CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK W/P-IGCT FUSE

    1. Remove the W/P-IGCT fuse from the No. 1 motor compartment room relay block and junction block assembly.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      W/P-IGCT fuse terminals Always Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 No. 1 Motor Compartment Room Relay Block and Junction Block Assembly
      *2 W/P-IGCT Fuse

    NG → CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. INSPECT IGCT 1 RELAY 
    1. Inspect the IGCT 1 relay. Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [09/2013 - ] - Step 1 .

    NG → REPLACE IGCT 1 RELAY 

    OK → REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IGCT 1 RELAY - WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR (FOR DRIVE UNIT), AUXILIARY BATTERY) 

  12. REPAIR OR REPLACE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY (FOR DRIVE UNIT). Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  13. REPLACE THERMAL CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  14. REPLACE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  15. REPLENISH COOLANT (COOLANT LOOP FOR DRIVE UNIT). Refer to  REPLACEMENT [09/2013 - ] - Step 3 
  16. REPAIR OR REPLACE COOLING FAN CIRCUIT. Refer to  Cooling Fan Circuit [09/2013 - ]
