DTC CHG_f041: Communication Problem between Charger and Electric Vehicle Battery [09/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR ANY OTHER ALERT CODES OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool to the No. 2 DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Turn the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Alert List.
    5. Read the alert codes.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      CHG_f040*1 and CHG_f041 are output A
      CHG_f040*1, CHG_f041, electric vehicle charger internal fault alert codes*2 and electric vehicle battery internal fault alert codes*3 are output B

      *1: CHG_f040 may not be output.

      *2: Electric vehicle charger internal fault alert codes are CHG_f002, CHG_f003, CHG_f004, CHG_f017, CHG_f054, CHG_f079, CHG_f080 and CHG_f081.

      *3: Electric vehicle battery internal fault alert codes are BMS_f003, BMS_f007, BMS_f023, BMS_f024, BMS_f025, BMS_f026, BMS_f027, BMS_f028, BMS_f047, BMS_f050, BMS_f051, BMS_f054, BMS_f061, BMS_f104 and BMS_f108.

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER - ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY)

    1. Disconnect connector D4 from the electric vehicle charger.

    2. Disconnect connector h1 from the electric vehicle battery.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D4-4 (TSCH) - h1-21 (TSCH) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D4-10 (TSCL) - h1-32 (TSCL) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D4-4 (TSCH) or h1-21 (TSCH) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher
      D4-10 (TSCL) or h1-32 (TSCL) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher

      *b Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Electric Vehicle Battery Assembly)

    NG → See step   4 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ ALERT CODES OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool to the No. 2 DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Turn the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Alert List.
    5. Read the alert codes.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      CHG_f041 is output A
      CHG_f040 and CHG_f041 are output B

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ELECTRIC VEHICLE TRACTION MOTOR - ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER, ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY)

    1. Disconnect connector D4 from the electric vehicle charger.

    2. Disconnect connector h1 from the electric vehicle battery.

    3. Disconnect connector D14 from the electric vehicle traction motor.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D4-4 (TSCH) - D14-4 (TSCH) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D4-10 (TSCL) - D14-5 (TSCL) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      h1-21 (TSCH) - D14-19 (TSCH) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      h1-32 (TSCL) - D14-20 (TSCL) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D4-4 (TSCH) or D14-4 (TSCH) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher
      D4-10 (TSCL) or D14-5 (TSCL) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher
      h1-21 (TSCH) or D14-19 (TSCH) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher
      h1-32 (TSCL) or D14-20 (TSCL) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  5. GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2013 - ] 
  6. REPLACE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  7. REPLACE ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  8. REPLACE ELECTRIC VEHICLE TRACTION MOTOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ]
