DTC CHG_f040: Communication Problem between Charger and Gateway [09/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR ANY OTHER ALERT CODES OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool to the No. 2 DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Turn the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Alert List.
    5. Read the alert codes.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      CHG_f040 and CHG_f041*1 are output A
      CHG_f040, CHG_f041*1 and electric vehicle charger internal fault alert codes*2 are output B

      *1: CHG_f041 may not be output.

      *2: Electric vehicle charger internal fault alert codes are CHG_f002, CHG_f003, CHG_f004, CHG_f017, CHG_f054, CHG_f079, CHG_f080 and CHG_f081.

    B → See step   4 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER - EV GATEWAY CONTROL ECU)

    1. Disconnect connector D4 from the electric vehicle charger.

    2. Disconnect connector K28 from the EV gateway control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D4-4 (TSCH) - K28-13 (TSCH) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D4-10 (TSCL) - K28-3 (TSCL) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D4-4 (TSCH) or K28-13 (TSCH) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher
      D4-10 (TSCL) or K28-3 (TSCL) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Electric Vehicle Charger Assembly)
      *b Front view of wire harness connector
      (to EV Gateway Control ECU)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ ALERT CODES OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool to the No. 2 DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Turn the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Alert List.
    5. Read the alert codes.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      CHG_f040 is output A
      CHG_f040 and CHG_f041 are output B

    A → See step   6 

  4. GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2013 - ] 
  5. REPLACE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  6. REPLACE EV GATEWAY CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ]
