Operating Light Control Rheostat does not Change Light Brightness: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT) 
    1. Using the Techstream, read the Data List. Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST .
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Tail Cancel SW Tail cancel switch / OFF or ON OFF: Tail cancel switch off -
      ON: Tail cancel switch on
      Rheostat value Light control rheostat switch value / Min.: 0 %, Max.: 100 % 0 to 100 % -

      OK

      The value displayed on the Techstream changes in accordance with the actual rheostat switch operation.

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   6 

  2. INSPECT LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT 
    1. Remove the light control rheostat. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Inspect the trip light control rheostat. Refer to INSPECTION .

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT) 
    1. Disconnect the E19 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the E2 light control rheostat connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E19-26 (SW1) - E2-7 (T) Always Below 1 Ω
      E19-27 (SW2) - E2-3 (RV)
      E19-30 (TC) - E2-5 (TC)
      E19-34 (SW3) - E2-1 (E)
      E19-26 (SW1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E19-27 (SW2) - Body ground
      E19-30 (TC) - Body ground
      E19-34 (SW3) - Body ground

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   4 

  4. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  5. REPLACE LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  6. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
