DTC P0AAE-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Air Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Low; DTC P0AAF-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Air Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTCS (HV) See step   1 

    B → GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM) Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART  . 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK INSTALLATION OF INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 hybrid vehicle battery carrier bracket sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 25 .
    3. Check installation of inlet air temperature sensor.
      1. Check the connections of the z17 connector of the battery smart unit.

        OK

        The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

        Result

        Result Proceed to
        NG B
        OK Go to next step
      2. Visually check the installation condition of the inlet air temperature sensor.

        OK

        The inlet air temperature sensor is installed in the correct location and its claws are engaged securely.

        Result

        Claws are damaged. C
        Inlet air temperature sensor is not installed correctly, but claws are not damaged. D
    4. Install the No. 1 hybrid vehicle battery carrier bracket sub-assembly.

    B → CONNECT SECURELY 

    C → See step   5 

    D → INSTALL PARTS CORRECTLY 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HV BATTERY (INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 hybrid vehicle battery carrier bracket sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 25 .
    3. Disconnect connectors c1 and z17 from the battery smart unit.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z17-1 (TCO) - z17-7 (GCO) 0 °C (32 °F) 26.7 to 27.8 kΩ
      25 °C (77 °F) 9.9 to 10.1 kΩ
      40 °C (104 °F) 5.73 to 5.92 kΩ

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      z17-1 (TCO) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-1 (TCO) - c1-8 (GND) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-7 (GCO) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-7 (GCO) - c1-8 (GND) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      z17-6 (TBO) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-6 (TBO) - c1-8 (GND) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-12 (GBO) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-12 (GBO) - c1-8 (GND) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-5 (TB1) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-5 (TB1) - c1-8 (GND) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-11 (GB1) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-11 (GB1) - c1-8 (GND) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-4 (TB2) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-4 (TB2) - c1-8 (GND) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-10 (GB2) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-10 (GB2) - c1-8 (GND) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    7. Connect the battery smart unit connectors.
    8. Install the No. 1 hybrid vehicle battery carrier bracket sub-assembly.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR) See step   4 

    NG → REPAIR HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   5 

  5. REPLACE HV BATTERY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  6. REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT. Refer to  COMPONENTS
