DTC P0A85-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTCS (HV) See step   1 

    B → GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM) 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VOLTAGE) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the rear No. 1 floor board. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 8 .
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    4. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG).
      NOTE:
      • After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.
      • If the power switch is turned on (IG) with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.
      NOTE:

      If the Active Test cannot be performed, skip it and proceed to the next step to check voltage. In accordance with fail-safe system operation, the power management control ECU sends a command to operate the battery cooling fan.

    7. Select each air volume mode (1 to 6) in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" Active Test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    8. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S14-2 (VM0) - S14-4 (GND0) Battery cooling blower is operating Below 5 V

      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the service grip removed causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

      HINT: 

      Measure the voltage on the wire side of the connector that is part of the battery cooling blower.

    9. Turn the power switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    11. Install the rear No. 1 floor board.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HV BATTERY (BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 hybrid vehicle battery carrier bracket sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 25 .
    3. Disconnect connectors c1 and z17 from the battery smart unit.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      z17-6 (TBO) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-12 (GBO) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-5 (TB1) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-11 (GB1) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-4 (TB2) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-10 (GB2) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-1 (TCO) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      z17-7 (GCO) - c1-4 (IGCT) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    5. Connect the battery smart unit connectors.
    6. Install the No. 1 hybrid vehicle battery carrier bracket sub-assembly.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → See step   8 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the upper hybrid battery cover sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 28 .
    3. Check the wire harness and connectors of the battery temperature sensor and inlet air temperature sensor for abnormalities by sight and touch.

      Specified Condition

      There are no open or short circuits in the wire harness and connectors. There are no short circuits to other wire harnesses.

    4. Install the upper hybrid battery cover sub-assembly.

    NG → REPAIR HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   9 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VOLTAGE) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the rear No. 1 floor board. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 8 .
    3. Disconnect connector S14 from the battery cooling blower assembly.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      S14-2 (VM0) - S14-4 (GND0) Power switch on (IG) Below 5 V

      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the battery cooling blower assembly connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    7. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    8. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    9. Install the rear No. 1 floor board.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → See step   7 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER - BATTERY SMART UNIT) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 hybrid vehicle battery carrier bracket sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 25 .
    3. Disconnect connector S14 from the battery cooling blower assembly.

    4. Disconnect connector c1 from the battery smart unit.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      S14-2 (VM0) and c1-7 (VM) - Other terminal Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    6. Connect the battery smart unit connector.
    7. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    8. Install the No. 1 hybrid vehicle battery carrier bracket sub-assembly.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   8 

  7. REPLACE BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  8. REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  9. REPLACE HV BATTERY. Refer to  COMPONENTS
