DTC P0A84-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit Low: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTCS (HV) See step   1 

    B → GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM) 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.
      NOTE:

      If the Active Test cannot be performed, skip it and proceed to the next step to check fan operates and air is sucked. In accordance with fail-safe system operation, the power management control ECU sends a command to operate the battery cooling fan.

    4. Select air volume mode 6 in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" Active Test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    5. Check that the fan operates and air is sucked into the inlet duct.

      HINT: 

      The cooling fan may not stop even when turning the cooling fan off in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" Active Test. This is due to HV system control and not a malfunction.

      OK

      The fan operates.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER - BATTERY SMART UNIT) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 hybrid vehicle battery carrier bracket sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 25 .
    3. Disconnect connector S14 from the battery cooling blower assembly.

    4. Disconnect connector C1 from the battery smart unit.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      S14-2 (VM0) - c1-7 (VM) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      S14-2 (VM0) or c1-7 (VM) - Body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    6. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    7. Connect the battery smart unit connector.
    8. Install the No. 1 hybrid vehicle battery carrier bracket sub-assembly.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK BATTERY SMART UNIT (VOLTAGE) See step   5 

    NG → See step   20 

    OK → See step   18 

  5. CHECK FUSE (BATT FAN) 
    1. Remove the BATT FAN fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly
    2. Measure the resistance of the BATT FAN fuse.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      BATT FAN fuse Always Below 1 Ω

      *1 Engine Room Relay Block and Junction Block Assembly
      *2 BATT FAN Fuse

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK NO. 2 INTEGRATION RELAY (BATT FAN) 
    1. Remove the No. 2 integration relay from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1C-1 - 1A-8 Battery voltage is applied across terminals 1A-6 and 1A-7 Below 1 Ω
      No battery voltage is applied across terminals 1A-6 and 1A-7 10 kΩ or higher

      *1 No. 2 Integration Relay *2 BATT FAN Fuse
      *3 BATT FAN Relay - -
    3. Install the No. 2 integration relay.

    NG → See step   21 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VOLTAGE) 
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the rear No. 1 floor board. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 8 .
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    4. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG).
      NOTE:
      • After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.
      • If the power switch is turned on (IG) with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.
      NOTE:

      If the Active Test cannot be performed, skip it and proceed to the next step to check voltage. In accordance with fail-safe system operation, the power management control ECU sends a command to operate the battery cooling fan.

    7. Enter the following menus: All Data / VMF Fan Motor Voltage 1.
    8. Select each air volume mode (1 to 6) in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" Active Test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    9. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S14-1 (IG0) - Body ground Battery cooling blower is operating 11 to 14 V

      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the service grip removed causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

      HINT: 

      Measure the voltage on the wire side of the connector that is part of the battery cooling blower.

    10. Turn the power switch off.
    11. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    12. Install the rear No. 1 floor board.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the rear No. 1 floor board. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 8 .
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
      NOTE:
      • After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.
      • If the power switch is turned on (IG) with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 3 (SI0) and 4 (GND0) of the battery cooling blower assembly connector.

      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the service grip removed causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

      HINT: 

      If DTCs are output after the check, clear the DTCs using the Techstream.

    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    8. Install the rear No. 1 floor board.

    NG → See step   18 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair procedures, because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the rear No. 1 floor board. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 8 .
    3. Disconnect connector S14 from the battery cooling blower assembly.

    4. Disconnect connector A21 from the power management control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      NOTE:

      When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.

    6. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    7. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    8. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      S14-3 (SI0) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the battery cooling blower assembly connector and power management control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    9. Turn the power switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    11. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    12. Install the rear No. 1 floor board.
    13. Connect the power management control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   19 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 2 INTEGRATION RELAY - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect connector A21 from the power management control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Remove the No. 2 integration relay. Refer to REMOVAL .
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      NOTE:

      When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A21-4 (FCTL) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 V
      Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      If the power switch is turned on (IG) with the connector disconnected, DTCs will be stored. If DTCs are output, clear them using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

    6. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    7. Connect the power management control ECU connector.
    8. Install the No. 2 integration relay.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect connector L5 from the power management control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      L5-5 (E01) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      NOTE:

      When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.

    3. Connect the power management control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect connector L6 from the power management control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    3. Connect the power management control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 2 INTEGRATION RELAY - BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the No. 2 integration relay. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Remove the rear No. 1 floor board. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 8 .
    3. Disconnect connector S14 from the battery cooling blower assembly.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    5. Install the No. 2 integration relay.
    6. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    7. Install the rear No. 1 floor board.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   19 

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 2 INTEGRATION RELAY - BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the No. 2 integration relay. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2 .
    2. Remove the rear No. 1 floor board. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 8 .
    3. Disconnect connector S14 from the battery cooling blower assembly.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      S14-1 (IG0) - Terminals other than 1A-8 and body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    5. Install the No. 2 integration relay.
    6. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    7. Install the rear No. 1 floor board.

    NG → See step   16 

    OK: Go to next step 

  15. CHECK BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the rear No. 1 floor board. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 8 .
    2. Disconnect connector S14 from the battery cooling blower assembly.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    4. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    5. Install the rear No. 1 floor board.

    NG → See step   17 

    OK → REPLACE FUSE (BATT FAN) 

  16. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (BATT FAN) 

  17. REPLACE BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to COMPONENTS

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (BATT FAN) 

  18. REPLACE BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  19. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  20. REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  21. REPLACE NO. 2 INTEGRATION RELAY. Refer to  COMPONENTS
