DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input/Min.: 0, Max.: 127.5 10th segment comes on: 31.7 to 36.0 Unit: Liter
      9th segment comes on: 28.3 to 31.7
      8th segment comes on: 25.0 to 28.3
      7th segment comes on: 21.6 to 25.0
      6th segment comes on: 18.2 to 21.6
      5th segment comes on: 14.8 to 18.2
      4th segment comes on: 11.5 to 14.8
      3rd segment comes on: 8.1 to 11.5
      2nd segment comes on: 4.7 to 8.1
      1st segment comes on: 3.8 to 4.7

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Fuel level data can be displayed on the Techstream and DTC B1500 is output. A
      Fuel level data cannot be displayed on the Techstream. B

  2. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the G1 combination meter assembly connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G1-2 (L) - Body ground Always 12.0 to 415.0 Ω

      (to Combination Meter Assembly)

    NG → See step   3 

    OK → See step   6 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the M22 fuel sender gauge assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G1-2 (L) - M22-2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      G1-2 (L) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      M22-3 (FE)- Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Check that the float moves smoothly between E and F.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Float level is F (upper) 12.0 to 18.0 Ω
      1 - 2 Float level is between F (upper) and E (lower) 12.0 to 415.0 Ω (Gradually changes)
      1 - 2 Float level is E (lower) 405.0 to 415.0 Ω

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FUEL SUCTION TUBE ASSEMBLY WITH PUMP AND GAUGE 
    1. Visually check for deformation on the fuel suction tube assembly with pump and gauge connector.

      OK

      There is no deformation.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK → See step   6 

  6. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  7. REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. REPLACE FUEL SUCTION TUBE ASSEMBLY WITH PUMP AND GAUGE. Refer to  REMOVAL
