Speedometer Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if CAN communication DTCs are output. Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING .

      CAN communication DTCs are output. B

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      • *1: for Speedometer with Imperial Units
      • *2: for Speedometer with Metric Units

      OK

      Speedometer indication is normal.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM 
    1. Check if vehicle stability control system DTCs are output. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      DTCs are output. B

    A: Go to next step 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED, VEHICLE SPEED METER) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus:
      1. for ABS/VSC/TRAC: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Data List.
      2. for Combination Meter: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      ABS/VSC/TRAC

      The data list values of the ECUs match. A

      HINT: 

      • When the Data List values of the ECUs match, an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.
      • When the Data List values of the ECUs do not match, a signal output error of the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) or an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or known good one. Refer to REMOVAL .

      OK

      The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK → END 

  6. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM 
  7. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. GO TO VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  9. REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU). Refer to  REMOVAL
