Microphone Circuit between Microphone and Radio Receiver: Procedure

  1. CONFIRM MODEL 
    1. Choose the model to be inspected.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) - INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY - AMPLIFIER MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the E11 DCM (telematics transceiver) connector.
    2. Disconnect the N2 inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E11-33 (MCVD) - N2-9 (ACC) Always Below 1 Ω
      E11-34 (MCI+) - N2-11 (MIC+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E11-35 (MCI-) - N2-12 (MIC-) Always Below 1 Ω
      E11-33 (MCVD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E11-34 (MCI+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E11-35 (MCI-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E11-32 (SGND) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY - DCM - TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) 
    1. Disconnect the E5 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the E11 DCM (telematics transceiver) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E5-5 (MIN+) - E11-18 (MCO+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-19 (MIN-) - E11-19 (MCO-) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-5 (MIN+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E5-19 (MIN-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E5-18 (SGND) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY - INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY - AMPLIFIER MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the E5 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the N2 inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E5-6 (SNS2) - N2-10 (SGND) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-6 (SNS2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the E11 DCM (telematics transceiver) connector.
    2. Reconnect the E5 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E5-18 (SGND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-19 (MIN-) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → See step   20 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) 
    1. Reconnect the E11 DCM (telematics transceiver) connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E11-33 (MCVD) - Body ground Engine switch on (ACC) 4 to 6 V
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E11-35 (MCI-) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      E11-32 (SGND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY (AMPLIFIER MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      10 (SGND) - 12 (MIC-) Always Below 1 Ω

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. INSPECT INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY (AMPLIFIER MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Reconnect the E5 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    2. Reconnect the E11 DCM (telematics transceiver) connector.
    3. Reconnect the N2 inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly) connector.
    4. Turn the engine switch on (ACC).
    5. Connect an oscilloscope to terminals 11 (MIC+) and 12 (MIC-) of the N2 inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly) connector.

    6. Check the waveform of the inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly) using the oscilloscope.

      Result

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY - ROOF CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY - TELEPHONE MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the E5 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the N6 roof console box assembly (telephone microphone assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E5-4 (MACC) - N6-14 (MACC) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-5 (MIN+) - N6-13 (MCO+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-19 (MIN-) - N6-12 (MCO-) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-6 (SNS2) - N6-15 (SNS2) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-4 (MACC) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E5-5 (MIN+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E5-19 (MIN-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E5-18 (SGND) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E5-6 (SNS2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. INSPECT RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Reconnect the E5 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    2. Reconnect the N6 roof console box assembly (telephone microphone assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E5-4 (MACC) - Body ground Engine switch on (ACC) 4 to 6 V
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E5-18 (SGND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-19 (MIN-) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

  11. INSPECT ROOF CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY (TELEPHONE MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the roof console box assembly (telephone microphone assembly).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      15 (SNS2) - 12 (MCO-) Always Below 1 Ω

  12. INSPECT ROOF CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY (TELEPHONE MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Reconnect the E5 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    2. Reconnect the N6 roof console box assembly (telephone microphone assembly) connector.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (ACC).
    4. Connect an oscilloscope to terminals 13 (MCO+) and 12 (MCO-) of the N6 roof console box assembly (telephone microphone assembly) connector.

    5. Check the waveform of the roof console box assembly (telephone microphone assembly) using the oscilloscope.

      Result

  13. REPLACE TELEPHONE MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the telephone microphone assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Check if the same malfunction recurs.

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY - INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY - AMPLIFIER MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the E5 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the N2 inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E5-4 (MACC) - N2-9 (ACC) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-5 (MIN+) - N2-11 (MIC+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-19 (MIN-) - N2-12 (MIC-) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-6 (SNS2) - N2-10 (SGND) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-4 (MACC) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E5-5 (MIN+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      E5-18 (SGND) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  15. INSPECT RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Reconnect the E5 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    2. Reconnect the N2 inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

  17. INSPECT INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY (AMPLIFIER MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Reconnect the E5 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    2. Reconnect the N2 inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly) connector.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (ACC).
    4. Connect an oscilloscope to terminals 11 (MIC+) and 12 (MIC-) of the N2 inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly) connector.

    5. Check the waveform of the inner rear view mirror assembly (amplifier microphone assembly) using the oscilloscope.

  20. REPLACE RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  21. REPLACE DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER). Refer to  REMOVAL 
  22. REPLACE ROOF CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
