Mute Signal Circuit between Stereo Component Tuner Assembly and Television Display Assembly: Procedure

  1. CHECK STEREO COMPONENT TUNER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the L18 stereo component tuner assembly connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L18-15 (MUTE2) - Body ground Turn the ignition switch to ACC, disc player assembly is playing → Changing modes 3.5 V or higher → Below 1 V

      (to Stereo Component Tuner Assembly)

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   3 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEREO COMPONENT TUNER - TELEVISION DISPLAY) 
    1. Disconnect the L18 stereo component tuner assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the U1 television display assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L18-15 (MUTE2) - U1-11 (MUTE) Always Below 1 Ω
      L18-15 (MUTE2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   4 

  3. REPLACE STEREO COMPONENT TUNER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  4. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
