Fuel Receiver Gauge Malfunction: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Meter Operation Fuel receiver gauge EMPTY, 1/2, FULL -

      OK

      Needle indication is normal.

    NG → REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING DATA LIST (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input signal/Min.: 0, Max.: 255 Fuel gauge indicates (F): 33
      Fuel gauge indicates (3/4): 98
      Fuel gauge indicates (1/2): 144
      Fuel gauge indicates (1/4): 179
      Fuel gauge indicates (E): 206      		 -

      OK

      Fuel value signal displayed on the tester is almost the same as needle indication.

    NG → REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge.

    2. Measure the resistance of the gauge.

      Standard resistance 

      Tester Connection Float Level Specified Condition
      1 - 2 F 15.0 +-1.5 Ω
      1 - 2 1/2 212.5 +-12.3 Ω
      1 - 2 E 410.0 +-4.5 Ω

    NG → REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (COMBINATION METER - FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the E19 meter connector.

    2. Disconnect the S2 gauge connector
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance 

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E19-24 (L) - S2-1 (FS) Below 1 Ω
      E19-12 (E) - S2-2 (FE) Below 1 Ω
      E19-24 (L) or S2-1 (FS) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      E19-12 (E) or S2-2 (FE) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
