High Beam Headlight Circuit: Procedure

  1. CHECK OPERATION (LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS) 
    1. Check the operation of the low beam headlights.

      OK

      Low beam headlights operate normally.

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Main Body / Active Test.
    5. Check that the high beam headlights illuminate.
      MAIN BODY

      Head Light Hi High beam headlights ON/OFF -

      OK

      High beam headlights illuminate.

    NG → See step   3 

    OK → See step   15 

  3. CHECK VEHICLE CONDITION 
    1. Check the vehicle condition.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      w/ Daytime Running Light Control A
      w/o Daytime Running Light Control B

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (H-LP HI MAIN FUSE - RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL)) 
    1. Disconnect the running light relay (DRL) connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay terminal 6 (+B) - Body ground Power switch off 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL) - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the 2C instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay Terminal 4 (H) - 2C-22 Always Below 1 Ω
      2C-22 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Relay Terminal 3 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL) - HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      LH SIDE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Running light relay (DRL) terminal 5 (HLOL) - A9-2 (HI)*1 Always Below 1 Ω
      Running light relay (DRL) terminal 5 (HLOL) - A12-2 (HI)*2 Always Below 1 Ω
      A9-2 (HI)*1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A12-2 (HI)*2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A9-1 (E)*1 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      A12-1 (E)*2 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      RH SIDE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Running light relay (DRL) terminal 1 (HLOR) - A38-2 (HI)*1 Always Below 1 Ω
      Running light relay (DRL) terminal 1 (HLOR) - A41-2 (HI)*2 Always Below 1 Ω
      A38-2 (HI)*1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A41-2 (HI)*2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A38-1 (E)*1 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      A41-1 (E)*2 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      • *1: for LED Headlight
      • *2: for Halogen Headlight

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the instrument panel junction block assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2C-22 - MB-22 (DIM) Always Below 1 Ω
      2C-22 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Instrument Panel Junction Block Assembly)

    NG → See step   16 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. REPLACE RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL)) 
    1. Temporarily replace the running light relay (DRL) with a new or normally functioning one.
    2. Check that the high beam headlights operate normally.

      OK

      High beam headlights illuminate.

    NG → See step   17 

    OK → END (RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL) WAS DEFECTIVE) 

  9. INSPECT DIM RELAY (DIM) 
    1. Remove the headlight dimmer relay from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 - 5 Voltage is not applied between terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher
      3 - 5 Voltage is applied between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (H-LP HI MAIN FUSE - DIM RELAY) 
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Headlight dimmer relay terminal 2 - Body ground Power switch off 11 to 14 V
      Headlight dimmer relay terminal 3 - Body ground Power switch off 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DIM RELAY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the 2C instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Headlight dimmer relay terminal 1 - 2C-22 Always Below 1 Ω
      2C-22 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DIM RELAY - HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      LH SIDE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Headlight dimmer relay terminal 5 - A9-2 (HI)*1 Always Below 1 Ω
      Headlight dimmer relay terminal 5 - A12-2 (HI)*2 Always Below 1 Ω
      A9-2 (HI)*1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A12-2 (HI)*2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A9-1 (E)*1 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      A12-1 (E)*2 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      RH SIDE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Headlight dimmer relay terminal 5 - A38-2 (HI)*1 Always Below 1 Ω
      Headlight dimmer relay terminal 5 - A41-2 (HI)*2 Always Below 1 Ω
      A38-2 (HI)*1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A41-2 (HI)*2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A38-1 (E)*1 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      A41-1 (E)*2 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      • *1: for LED Headlight
      • *2: for Halogen Headlight

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the instrument panel junction block assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2C-22 - MB-22 (DIM) Always Below 1 Ω
      2C-22 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      (Instrument Panel Junction Block Assembly)

    NG → See step   16 

    OK → See step   17 

  14. GO TO PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 
  15. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 
  16. REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  17. REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU). Refer to  REMOVAL
