SST INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
- Ensure that the parking brake pedal is in the fully released position.NOTE: Carefully inspect the Brake Pedal Force Gauge for a potential oil leak before each use. If any sign of an oil leak is present, discontinue the use of the Brake Pedal Force Gauge SST and call 1-800-933-8335 for replacement instructions.NOTE: Use a shop rag or plastic cover to protect the carpet area under the parking brake pedal to avoid potential oil stains.
- Inspect the Brake Pedal Force Gauge and verify that the force indicator needle reads "0".NOTE: If the needle is NOT reading "0", follow the steps below to reset it.
First check the gauge, apply pressure to the force gauge 4 - 5 times with the needle traveling beyond 250 Newton, then lightly lift the pedal pad and check if the gauge resets at "0".
If the gauge still does NOT reset at "0", follow the adjustment steps below:- Carefully remove the plastic clear bezel.
- Use pliers to turn the adjustment knob until the needle reads "0".
- Install the plastic cover bezel.
- Attach the Brake Pedal Force Gauge to the parking brake pedal so that the mounting bracket fits securely over the pedal pad and the gauge faces to the right towards the brake pedal.
- Firmly depress the Brake Pedal Force Gauge with your foot according to the appropriate procedure in the vehicle's Repair Manual. Follow the specifications indicated in the Repair Manual as the number of clicks and force applied to the parking brake pedal may vary from vehicle to vehicle.
Refer to the following Service Category and Section in the Technical Information System (TIS) for the applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
CAUTION: When applying force to the Brake Pedal Force Gauge plunger platform (non-slip machined aluminum face), ensure the contact surface on the bottom of your shoe is dry to avoid potential injury and/or vehicle damage. - Read the maximum force achieved during parking brake pedal inspection by relieving the pressure applied to the Brake Pedal Force Gauge plunger platform (non-slip machined aluminum face) and observe the force value recorded by the red indicator.
- To reset the gauge, turn the white knob counterclockwise until the red needle reads "0".
- Verify the force measurement according to the appropriate Repair Manual.
Refer to TIS for the applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
