EV Drive Mode Switch Circuit: Procedure

  1. ASK ABOUT VEHICLE CONDITION 
    1. Ask the customer if a buzzer sounded to indicate that the transition to EV mode was canceled and a message was displayed on the multi-information display when they pressed the pattern select switch assembly (EV mode switch).

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No buzzer sounded and no message was displayed on the multi-information display. A
      A buzzer sounded and a message was displayed on the multi-information display. B

      HINT: 

      If a buzzer sounds and a message is displayed on the multi-information display, one or more of the EV mode entry conditions have not been met. Check that all of the EV mode entry conditions have been met before pressing the pattern select switch assembly (EV mode switch).

    B → COMPLETED 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CAN BUS CHECK) 

    HINT: 

    ECUs that are correctly connected to the CAN communication system can be displayed on the Techstream.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: System Select / CAN Bus Check.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      All of the ECUs and sensors that are currently connected to the CAN communication system are displayed. A
      None of the ECUs and sensors that are currently connected to the CAN communication system are displayed, or some of them are not displayed (w/ Smart Key System). B
      None of the ECUs and sensors that are currently connected to the CAN communication system are displayed, or some of them are not displayed (w/o Smart Key System). C

    C → See step   10 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (ALL DTC CODE) 
    1. Check for DTCs of all systems by following the prompts on the Techstream screen.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No DTCs are output. A
      DTCs other than hybrid control system DTCs are output. B

    B → GO TO DTC CHART 

    A: Go to next step 

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test / Indicat. EV Mode.
    2. Perform the "Indicat. EV Mode" Active Test.

      OK

      The EV mode light comes on. A

    A: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSEMBLY (EV MODE SWITCH) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the pattern select switch assembly (EV mode switch) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      4 (B) - 1 (E) EV mode switch on Below 1 Ω
      4 (B) - 1 (E) EV mode switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Pattern Select Switch Assembly (EV Mode Switch))

    NG → REPLACE PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSEMBLY (EV MODE SWITCH) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Connect the pattern select switch assembly (EV mode switch) connector.
    2. Disconnect connector D72 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D72-13 (EVSW) - Body ground EV mode switch on Below 1 Ω
      D72-13 (EVSW) - Body ground EV mode switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   9 

  7. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  8. GO TO METER SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  9. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  10. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
