DTC P0A38-257: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0A39-259: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) See step   3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MOTOR TEMP NO2) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      -40°F (-40°C) A
      419°F (215°C) B
      Same as actual temperature C
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

    B → See step   5 

    C → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    2. Connect terminals 4 (GMT) and 9 (GMTG) of vehicle side connector B59 of the generator temperature sensor.

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    6. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Terminals GMT and GMTG connected, ignition switch ON 419°F (215°C)

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Generator Temperature Sensor)

      HINT: 

      The generator temperature sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

    7. Turn the ignition switch off.
    8. Connect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → See step   8 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Connect terminals 26 (GMT) and 27 (GMTG) of connector A65 of the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Terminals GMT and GMTG connected, ignition switch ON 419°F (215°C)
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Ignition switch ON -40°F (-40°C)

      HINT: 

      The generator temperature sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → See step   8 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the generator temperature sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect connector A65 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B59-4 (GMT) - A65-26 (GMT) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      B59-9 (GMTG) - A65-27 (GMTG) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B59-4 (GMT) or A65-26 (GMT) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      B59-9 (GMTG) or A65-27 (GMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    4. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Connect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  7. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  9. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
