DTC P0A2C-247: Drive Motor "A" Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0A2D-249: Drive Motor "A" Temperature Sensor Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) See step   3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (ENGINE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Check the connections of the engine room junction block assembly connectors.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MOTOR TEMP NO1) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No1.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      -40°F (-40°C) A
      419°F (215°C) B
      Same as actual temperature C
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

    B → See step   7 

    C → See step   10 

    A: Go to next step 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect connector BA2 from the engine room junction block assembly.

    2. Connect terminals BA2-B11 (MMT) and BA2-B10 (MMTG) of the engine room junction block assembly.

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No1.
    6. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No1 Terminals MMT and MMTG connected, ignition switch ON 419°F (215°C)

    7. Turn the ignition switch off.
    8. Connect the engine room junction block assembly connector.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR - ENGINE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK) 
    1. Disconnect connector BA2 from the engine room junction block assembly.
    2. Remove the inverter with converter assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
    3. Disconnect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B61-1 (MMT) - BA2-A11 (MMT) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      B61-3 (MMTG) - BA2-A10 (MMTG) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B61-1 (MMT) or BA2-A11 (MMT) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      B61-3 (MMTG) or BA2-A10 (MMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Motor Temperature Sensor)
      *b Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Engine Room Junction Block Assembly)
    5. Connect the motor temperature sensor connector.
    6. Install the inverter with converter assembly.
    7. Connect the engine room junction block assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   11 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - ENGINE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK) 
    1. Connect terminals 24 (MMT) and 25 (MMTG) of connector A65 of the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No1.
    5. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No1 Terminals MMT and MMTG connected, ignition switch ON 419°F (215°C)
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   12 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  7. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the connector from the engine room junction block assembly.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No1.
    5. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Tester Display Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No1 Ignition switch ON -40°F (-40°C)
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK - MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect connector BA2 from the engine room junction block assembly.
    2. Remove the inverter with converter assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
    3. Disconnect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B61-1 (MMT) - BA2-A11 (MMT) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      B61-3 (MMTG) - BA2-A10 (MMTG) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B61-1 (MMT) or BA2-A11 (MMT) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      B61-3 (MMTG) or BA2-A10 (MMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    5. Connect the motor temperature sensor connector.
    6. Install the inverter with converter assembly.
    7. Connect the engine room junction block assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   11 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - ENGINE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK) 
    1. Disconnect connector BA2 from the engine room junction block assembly.
    2. Disconnect connector A65 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A65-24 (MMT) - BA2-B11 (MMT) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      A65-25 (MMTG) - BA2-B10 (MMTG) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A65-24 (MMT) or BA2-B11 (MMT) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      A65-25 (MMTG) or BA2-B10 (MMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Connect the engine room junction block assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   12 

  10. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
  11. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  12. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
