DTC U029A-123: Lost Communication with Hybrid Battery Pack Sensor Module: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. INSPECT FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) See step   1 

    NG → REPLACE FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT RELAY (IGCT MAIN) See step   2 

    NG → REPLACE RELAY (IGCT MAIN) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGCT VOLTAGE) See step   3 

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BATTERY SMART UNIT) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.

    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    3. Remove the battery cover. Refer to REMOVAL .
    4. Disconnect the D72 connector from the hybrid vehicle control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .
    5. Disconnect the z21 connector from the battery smart unit.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D72-32 (BTH+) - z21-2 (BTH+) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      D72-33 (BTH-) - z21-3 (BTH-) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D72-32 (BTH+) or z21-2 (BTH+) - Body ground Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      D72-33 (BTH-) or z21-3 (BTH-) - Body ground Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Battery Smart Unit)
    7. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    8. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    9. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D72-32 (BTH+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      D72-33 (BTH-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      NOTE:
      • If the ignition switch is turned ON with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      • If the ignition switch is turned ON with the connector removed from the sensor, DTC will be stored. If DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK WAVEFORM 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.

    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    3. Remove the battery cover. Refer to REMOVAL .
    4. Remove the battery smart unit. Refer to REMOVAL .

      HINT: 

      Do not disconnect the battery smart unit connector.

    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    6. Connect an oscilloscope between the battery smart unit terminals specified in the table below, and measure the waveform.

      Equipment Setting 2 V/DIV., 500 μs/DIV.
      Condition Ignition switch ON

      OK

      The waveform in the illustration can be measured.

      NOTE:
      • After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.
      • If the ignition switch is turned ON (IG) with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

    NG → See step   9 

    OK → See step   10 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 2 BATTERY PACK WIRE) See step   5 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (NO. 2 BATTERY PACK WIRE) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGCT MAIN RELAY - BATTERY SMART UNIT) See step   4 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → CHECK AND REPAIR POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 2 BATTERY PACK WIRE) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.

    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    3. Remove the battery cover. Refer to REMOVAL .
    4. Disconnect the Oz3 connector from the No. 2 battery pack wire.

    5. Disconnect the z21 connector from the battery smart unit.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (NO. 2 BATTERY PACK WIRE) 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  9. REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  10. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
