DTC P0A82-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Cooling Fan 1 Performance / Stuck OFF: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Read output DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      P0A82-123 only is output A
      P0AFC-123 is output B
      Any of P0A84-123, P0A85-123, P0A99-123, P0A9A-123, P0AD2-123, and P0AD3-123 are output C

    B → See step   7 

    C → See step   8 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY (NO. 0) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.

      HINT: 

      Check Cooling Fan Mode1 in the Data List. If the mode is 6, it is not necessary to perform the Active Test.

    4. Enter the following menus: All Data / VMF Fan Motor Voltage1 to 3.
    5. Check that the Data List value VMF Fan Motor Voltage1 is abnormal while operating the cooling fans (battery cooling blower assemblies). (*1)
    6. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    7. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    8. Remove the battery cover and replace the battery cooling blower assembly (No. 0) with another battery cooling blower assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .

    9. Install the battery cover. Refer to INSTALLATION .
    10. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.

      HINT: 

      Check Cooling Fan Mode1 in the Data List. If the mode is 6, it is not necessary to perform the Active Test.

    12. Enter the following menus: All Data / VMF Fan Motor Voltage1 to 3.
    13. Check if the blower assembly (from *1 above) malfunctions in a different location while operating the cooling fans (battery cooling blower assemblies) using the Active Test.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Malfunction is not reproduced in same blower when it is moved to another location A
      Malfunction is reproduced in same blower when it is moved to another location B

    B → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY SMART UNIT - BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY [NO. 0]) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.

    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    3. Remove the battery cover. Refer to REMOVAL .
    4. Disconnect the O45 connector from the battery cooling blower assembly (No. 0).

    5. Disconnect the z21 connector from the battery smart unit.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      z21-8 (VM0) - O45-2 (VM0) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      (to Battery Cooling Blower Assembly [No. 0])

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY [NO. 0]) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.

    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    3. Remove the battery cover. Refer to REMOVAL .
    4. Disconnect the O45 connector from the battery cooling blower assembly (No. 0).

    5. Disconnect the A65 connector from the hybrid vehicle control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A65-29 (Sl0) - O45-3 (Sl0) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      O45-3 (Sl0) - O45-4 (GND0) Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      O45-3 (Sl0) - Body ground Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VM0 VOLTAGE) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.

    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    3. Remove the battery cover. Refer to REMOVAL .
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    5. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.
    7. Enter the following menus: All Data / VMF Fan Motor Voltage1.
    8. Select each air volume mode (1 to 6) in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" active test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    9. While the battery cooling blower is operating, compare the value in the Data List (VMF Fan Motor Voltage1) with the voltage value that was actually measured at the battery cooling blower assembly (No. 0) connector.

      Specified Condition

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      O45-2 (VM0) - O45-4 (GND0) Battery cooling blower is operating Difference between the value in the Data List (VMF Fan Motor Voltage1) and the actual measurement value is 1 V or less.
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Component with harness connected
      (Battery Cooling Blower Assembly [No. 0])
      NOTE:

      If the ignition switch is turned ON with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      HINT: 

      Compare the values in each air volume mode (1 to 6).

    NG → See step   10 

    OK → See step   11 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 2 BATTERY PACK WIRE) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.

    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    3. Remove the battery cover. Refer to REMOVAL .
    4. Disconnect the Oz3 connector from the No. 2 battery pack wire.

    5. Disconnect the z21 connector from the battery smart unit.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (NO. 2 BATTERY PACK WIRE) 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  7. GO TO DTC P0AFC-123. Refer to  DTC P0AFC-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Sensor Module  
  8. GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  9. REPLACE BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY (NO. 0). Refer to  REMOVAL 
  10. REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  11. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
