Parking Brake Switch Circuit: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Turn Techstream on.
    4. Select the following menu items: Body Electrical / Main Body / Data List.
    5. Read the display on Techstream.
      MAIN BODY:

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Parking Brake SW Parking brake SW signal / ON or OFF ON: Parking brake switch is ON
      OFF: Parking brake switch is OFF
      -

      OK

      Normal conditions listed above are displayed.

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   4 

  2. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the parking brake switch assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - Switch body Shaft is pushed in (OFF) 10 kΩ or higher
      1 - Switch body Shaft is not pushed in (ON) Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SWITCH - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK) 
    1. Disconnect the 1C instrument panel junction block assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the A17 switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1C-14 - A17-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      1C-14 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK) 

  4. PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
