DTC P0AA4-232: Hybrid Battery Negative Contactor Circuit Stuck Closed: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      P0AA4-232 only is output. A
      Any of the following DTCs are also output. B

      HINT: 

      • *1: If any INF codes are output for this DTC, refer to the corresponding diagnostic procedure.
      • P0AA4-232 may be output due to a malfunction which causes the DTCs in the table above to be output. In this case, first troubleshoot the output DTCs in the table above. Then, perform a reproduction test to check that no DTCs are output.
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      HINT: 

      P0AA4-232 may be output due to a malfunction which causes the DTCs in the table above to be output. In this case, first troubleshoot the output DTCs in the table above. Then, perform a reproduction test to check that no DTCs are output.

    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

    B → See step   8 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Read the freeze frame data of DTC P0AA4-232.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      HV battery current (IB) is less than 3 A. A
      HV battery current (IB) is 3 A or more. B
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

    A → See step   6 

    B: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HYBRID BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the battery cover sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      j3-1 - z31-1 Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      *1 Hybrid Battery Junction Block Assembly

      HINT: 

      • If a system main relay is stuck closed, inspect the HV relay assembly without removing it from the vehicle in order to keep the relay closed.
      • If the result of reading the freeze frame data is B, the HV battery junction block must be replaced. Measuring resistance can determine that this is either a present or past malfunction.
    4. Install the battery cover sub-assembly. Refer to INSTALLATION .

    NG → See step   5 

    OK → See step   5 

  5. REPLACE HYBRID BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  6. REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  7. GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  8. GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
