Speedometer Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if a CAN communication DTC is output.Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTC is not output A
      CAN communication DTC is output B

    B → See step   5 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Speed Meter Operation Speedometer 0/40/80/120/160*1/200*1 km/h (mph) Perform the test with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling.
      • *1: except U.S.A.

      OK

      Speedometer indication is normal.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED METER) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Vehicle Speed Meter Vehicle speed/
      Min.: 0 (0), Max.: 255 (158)
      Approximately same as actual vehicle speed (When vehicle is being driven) Unit: km/h (mph)

      OK

      Vehicle speed displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as the speedometer indication.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM 
    1. Check if a vehicle stability control DTC is output.Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Vehicle stability control DTC is not output A
      Vehicle stability control DTC is output B

    B → See step   7 

    A → See step   6 

  5. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  6. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  7. GO TO VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
