DTC P0705: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input): Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B13-2 (RB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OUTPUT SIGNAL) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      B13-4 (B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Measure resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Shift Position Specified Condition
      4 - 5 P and N Below 1 Ω
      Except P and N 10 Ω or higher
      2 - 6 P Below 1 Ω
      Except P 10 Ω or higher
      2 - 1 R Below 1 Ω
      Except R 10 Ω or higher
      2 - 9 N Below 1 Ω
      Except N 10 Ω or higher
      2 - 7 D, S, "+" and "-" Below 1 Ω
      Except D, S, "+" and "-" 10 Ω or higher

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Shift Position Specified Condition
      B29-73 (P) - Body ground P 11 to 14 V
      Except P Below 1 V
      B29-54 (N) - Body ground N 11 to 14 V
      Except N Below 1 V
      B29-53 (R) - Body ground R 11 to 14 V *
      Except R Below 1 V
      B29-56 (D) - Body ground D and S 11 to 14 V
      Except D and S Below 1 V

      HINT: 

      *: The voltage will drop slightly due to the turning on of the back up light.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the transmission control switch connector of shift lock control unit assembly.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E39-6 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the transmission control switch connector of shift lock control unit assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Shift Position Specified Condition
      E39-6 - E39-13 S, "+" and "-" Below 1 Ω
      Except S, "+" and "-" 10 Ω or higher

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Shift Position Specified Condition
      B29-74 (S) - Body ground S, "+" and "-" 11 to 14 V
      Except S, "+" and "-" Below 1 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   11 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B13-4 (B) - B29-52 (NSW) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B13-4 (B) or B29-52 (NSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   11 

  9. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  10. REPLACE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT. Refer to  DISASSEMBLY 
  11. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL
