    1. Disconnect the transmission wire connector from the transaxle.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (SLU+) - 9 (SLU-) 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
4 (SLU+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
9 (SLU-) - Body ground Always

    NG → See step   3

    OK: Go to next step

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - ECM)
Fig 2: Checking B29 ECM Connector Terminals
    GTY293641Courtesy of © TOYOTA, LICENSE AGREEMENT TMS1002
    1. Connect the transmission wire connector to the transaxle.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connectors.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B29-54 (SLU+) - B29-53 (SLU-) 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
B29-54 (SLU+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
B29-53 (SLU-) - Body ground Always

NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK → See step   5

  3. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SLU
Fig 3: Checking Resistance Of SLU Shift Solenoid Valve & Operation
    GTY202876Courtesy of © TOYOTA, LICENSE AGREEMENT TMS1002
    1. Remove the shift solenoid valve SLU.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
    3. Connect the positive (+) lead with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector, then check the movement of the valve.

      OK

The solenoid makes an operating sound.

    NG → See step   6

    OK → See step   4

  4. REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE. Refer to  REMOVAL
  5. REPLACE ECM (for 2ZR-FE). Refer to  REMOVAL
  6. REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SLU. Refer to  DISASSEMBLY
