DTC P0A84-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit Low: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTCS (HV) See step   1 

    B → See step   14 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.
      NOTE:

      If the Active Test cannot be performed, skip it and proceed to the next step to check fan operates and air is sucked. In accordance with fail-safe system operation, the power management control ECU sends a command to operate the battery cooling fan.

    4. Select air volume mode 6 in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" Active Test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    5. Check that the fan operates and air is sucked into the inlet duct.

      HINT: 

      The cooling fan may not stop even when turning the cooling fan off in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" Active Test. This is due to HV system control and not a malfunction.

      OK

      The fan operates.

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER - BATTERY SMART UNIT) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair manual because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the front luggage compartment trim cover. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6 .
    3. Remove the rear side seat back assembly LH.
    4. Disconnect connector r1 from the battery cooling blower assembly.
    5. Disconnect connector N18 from the battery smart unit.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      r1-2 (FP0) - N18-5 (FP0) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      r1-2 (FP0) or N18-5 (FP0) - Body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Battery Smart Unit)
    7. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    8. Connect the battery smart unit connector.
    9. Install the rear side seat back assembly LH.
    10. Install the front luggage compartment trim cover.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER - BATTERY SMART UNIT) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK BATTERY SMART UNIT (FREQUENCY) See step   6 

    NG → See step   15 

    OK → See step   16 

  5. CHECK FUSE (BATT FAN) 
    1. Remove the BATT FAN fuse from the No. 2 engine room relay block.
    2. Measure the resistance of the BATT FAN fuse.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      BATT FAN fuse Always Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 No. 2 Engine Room Relay Block
      *2 BATT FAN Fuse

    NG → See step   12 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VOLTAGE) 
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair manual because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the front luggage compartment trim cover. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6 .
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    4. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG).
      NOTE:
      • After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair manual because this may cause a malfunction.
      • If the power switch is turned on (IG) with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.
      NOTE:

      If the Active Test cannot be performed, skip it and proceed to the next step to check voltage. In accordance with fail-safe system operation, the power management control ECU sends a command to operate the battery cooling fan.

    7. Enter the following menus: All Data / VMF Fan Motor Voltage 1.
    8. Select each air volume mode (1 to 6) in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" Active Test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    9. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      r1-1 (IG0) - Body ground Battery cooling blower is operating 11 to 14 V

      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the service grip removed causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

      HINT: 

      Measure the voltage on the wire side of the connector that is part of the battery cooling blower.

    10. Turn the power switch off.
    11. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    12. Install the front luggage compartment trim cover.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair manual because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the front luggage compartment trim cover. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6 .
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
      NOTE:
      • After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair manual because this may cause a malfunction.
      • If the power switch is turned on (IG) with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 3 (SI0) and 4 (GND0) of the battery cooling blower assembly connector.

      Specified Condition

      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the service grip removed causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

      HINT: 

      If DTCs are output after the check, clear the DTCs using the Techstream.

    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    8. Install the front luggage compartment trim cover.

    NG → See step   16 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair manual because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the front luggage compartment trim cover. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6 .
    3. Disconnect connector r1 from the battery cooling blower assembly.
    4. Disconnect connector A38 from the power management control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      r1-3 (SI0) - A38-29 (SI0) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      r1-3 (SI0) or A38-29 (SI0) - Body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      NOTE:

      When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.

    6. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    7. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    8. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      r1-3 (SI0) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the battery cooling blower assembly connector and power management control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    9. Turn the power switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    11. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    12. Install the front luggage compartment trim cover.
    13. Connect the power management control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   17 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect connector I3 from the power management control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      I3-5 (E01) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      NOTE:

      When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.

    3. Connect the power management control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect connector I4 from the power management control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      I4-5 (E02) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      NOTE:

      When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.

    3. Connect the power management control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGCT RELAY - BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the IGCT relay.
    2. Remove the front luggage compartment trim cover. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6 .
    3. Disconnect connector r1 from the battery cooling blower assembly.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    5. Install the IGCT relay.
    6. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    7. Install the front luggage compartment trim cover.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   17 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATT FAN FUSE - BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the BATT FAN fuse.
    2. Remove the front luggage compartment trim cover. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6 .
    3. Disconnect connector r1 from the battery cooling blower assembly.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      r1-1 (IG0) - Terminals other than 2 (BATT FAN fuse block) and body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    5. Install the BATT FAN fuse.
    6. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    7. Install the front luggage compartment trim cover.

    NG → See step   18 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the front luggage compartment trim cover. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6 .
    2. Disconnect connector r1 from the battery cooling blower assembly.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      r1-1 (IG0) - r1-4 (GND0) and body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    5. Install the front luggage compartment trim cover.

    NG → See step   19 

    OK → REPLACE FUSE (BATT FAN) 

  14. GO TO DTC CHART (P0AFC-123). Refer to  DTC P0AFC-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Sensor Module  
  15. REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  16. REPLACE BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  17. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  18. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (BATT FAN) 

  19. REPLACE BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to COMPONENTS

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (BATT FAN)
