Rear Axle Carrier: Removal: Removal
HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
- The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
- REMOVE REAR WHEEL
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (for 2WD)
- REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT (for 4WD) . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2
- REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY See step 17
- REMOVE REAR DISC . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 13
- DISCONNECT REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for 2WD) . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 17
- SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for 2WD)
- Remove the bolt and separate the rear speed sensor wire.
- REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) See step 7
- REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 4
- REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 5
- REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN COMPRESSION SPRING (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 6
- REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 7
- SEPARATE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN COMPRESSION SPRING (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 8
- SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 9
- REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 10
- REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 11
- REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 12
- REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 13
- REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN (for 4WD) . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 14
- SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) See step 21
- SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR (for 4WD) See step 20
- SEPARATE REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY
- Remove the nut, separate the rear stabilizer link assembly.
HINT:
If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon wrench (5 mm) to hold the stud.
- Remove the nut, separate the rear stabilizer link assembly.
- SEPARATE UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
- Remove the nut and bolt, separate the upper control arm assembly.
HINT:
Keep the nut fixed while loosening and removing the bolt.
- Using a brass bar and a hammer, separate the upper control arm assembly from the rear axle carrier sub assembly.

NOTE:Be careful not to damage the speed sensor wire.
- Remove the nut and bolt, separate the upper control arm assembly.
- SEPARATE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
- Place matchmarks on the camber adjust cam and the rear No. 1 suspension arm assembly.
- Remove the nut, bolt and camber adjust cam.
- Remove the nut and bolt, separate the rear No. 1 suspension arm assembly.
- REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)
- Remove the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.NOTE:
Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the parking brake assembly from hanging down by the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.
- Remove the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.
- REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) See step 24
- REMOVE REAR NO. 1 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR (for 4WD) See step 25
- REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)
- Remove the 4 bolts, the parking brake plate sub-assembly and the rear axle carrier sub-assembly from the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
