Rear Axle Carrier: Removal: Removal

HINT: 

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (for 2WD) 
  3. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT (for 4WD)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2
  4. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY  See step  17
  5. REMOVE REAR DISC  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 13
  6. DISCONNECT REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for 2WD)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 17
  7. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for 2WD) 
    1. Remove the bolt and separate the rear speed sensor wire.

  8. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)  See step  7
  9. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 4
  10. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 5
  11. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN COMPRESSION SPRING (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 6
  12. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 7
  13. SEPARATE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN COMPRESSION SPRING (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 8
  14. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 9
  15. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 10
  16. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 11
  17. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 12
  18. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 13
  19. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN (for 4WD)  . Refer to DISASSEMBLY - Step 14
  20. SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)  See step  21
  21. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR (for 4WD)  See step  20
  22. SEPARATE REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the nut, separate the rear stabilizer link assembly.

      HINT: 

      If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon wrench (5 mm) to hold the stud.

  23. SEPARATE UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the nut and bolt, separate the upper control arm assembly.

      HINT: 

      Keep the nut fixed while loosening and removing the bolt.

    2. Using a brass bar and a hammer, separate the upper control arm assembly from the rear axle carrier sub assembly.

      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the speed sensor wire.

  24. SEPARATE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Place matchmarks on the camber adjust cam and the rear No. 1 suspension arm assembly.

    2. Remove the nut, bolt and camber adjust cam.
    3. Remove the nut and bolt, separate the rear No. 1 suspension arm assembly.

  25. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Remove the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the parking brake assembly from hanging down by the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

  26. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)  See step  24
  27. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR (for 4WD)  See step  25
  28. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts, the parking brake plate sub-assembly and the rear axle carrier sub-assembly from the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
