Speed Signal Circuit: Procedure
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (JUNCTION CONNECTOR)
- Check for a short in the circuit connected to the junction connector shown in the wiring diagram.
HINT:
If voltage is not present, the circuit (ECU) was possibly malfunctioning. This is the circuit that will be diagnosed by following the step A that follows.
- Disconnect the junction connectors.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

- Disconnect the D72 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

- INSPECT ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (INPUT VOLTAGE)
- Disconnect the E1 meter connector.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition E1-9 (+S) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V HINT:
If any of the ECUs specified in the wiring diagram supplied power to the combination meter, the combination meter will output a waveform.

- INSPECT COMBINATION METER (OUTPUT VOLTAGE)
- Reconnect the E1 meter connector.
- Disconnect the A44 skid control ECU connector.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (INPUT WAVEFORM)
- Check the input waveform.

- Reconnect the A44 skid control ECU connector.
- Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector(s) still connected.
- Connect an oscilloscope to terminals E1-29 (SI) and body ground.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (READY).
- Turn the wheel slowly.
- Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.

The waveform is displayed as shown in the illustration.
HINT:
When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows.
