DTC B2284: Brake Signal Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM) 
    1. Delete the DTCs, refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    2. Check for CAN communication system DTCs, refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING .

      HINT: 

      If the DTCs for the CAN communication system malfunction are output, inspect those DTCs first, refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART .

      OK

      DTCs for CAN communication system No DTC is output.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK DTC OUTPUT 
    1. Delete the DTCs, refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    2. Check for DTCs again.
    3. Proceed to the next step based on the inspection result.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No DTC is output A
      Engine control system DTC are output B
      Vehicle stability control system DTC are output C

    C → See step   8 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STOP LIGHT SWITCH) 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Check the DATA LIST for proper functioning of the stop light switch.
      MAIN BODY:

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Stop Light SW Stop light switch/ON or OFF ON: Brake pedal depressed
      OFF: Brake pedal released
      -

      OK

      ON (brake pedal depressed) and OFF (brake pedal released) appear on the screen.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK) 

  4. CHECK OPERATION OF STOP LIGHT 
    1. Check whether the stop lights turn on and off normally when the brake pedal is depressed and released.

      OK

      Stop lights turn on when brake pedal is depressed.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK → REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK) 
    1. Disconnect the 1C connector from the instrument panel junction block.
    2. Disconnect the A19 connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1C-13 - A19-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      1C-13 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK) 

  6. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  7. GO TO ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  8. GO TO VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
