Air Intake Control Circuit: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE VSV FOR AICS) 
    1. Disconnect the 2 hoses from the VSV for air intake control valve.

    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester on.
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the VSV for AICS.
    4. Check the operation of the VSV when the VSV is operated by the tester.

      Standard

      Tester Operation Specified Condition
      VSV is ON Air from port E flows out through port F
      VSV is OFF Air from port E flows out through the air filter
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 VSV is ON
      *2 VSV is OFF
      *3 Air
      *4 Port F
      *5 Port E

    NG → See step   3 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT VACUUM TANK 
    1. Inspect the vacuum tank, refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION .

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE AIR CLEANER CAP 

    OK → See step   6 

  3. CHECK VSV (FOR AICV) 
    1. Inspect the VSV for AICV, refer to INSPECTION .

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT TERMINAL VOLTAGE (VSV FOR AIR INTAKE CONTROL VALVE CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the VSV for air intake control valve connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 9 to 14 V

      (to VSV for Air Intake Control Valve)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (EFI NO. 3 FUSE - VSV FOR AIR INTAKE CONTROL VALVE) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VSV FOR AIR INTAKE CONTROL VALVE - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the VSV for air intake control valve connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Check for open 

      Check for short 

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A10-2 (VSV for AICV) - B49-20 (AICV) Always Below 1 Ω
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A10-2 (VSV for AICV) or B49-20 (AICV) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (VSV FOR AICV - ECM) 

    OK → See step   8 

  6. CHECK ECM POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT. Refer to  ECM Power Source Circuit  
  7. REPLACE VSV (FOR AICV). Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  8. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  COMPONENTS
