Short to B+ in CAN Bus Line: Procedure

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal before measuring the resistances of the CAN main wire and CAN branch wire.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected, refer to INITIALIZATION .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK FOR SHORT TO B+ IN CAN BUS WIRE (DLC3 CAN BRANCH WIRE) 
    1. Disconnect the D55 No. 2 junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D47-6 (CANH) - D47-16 (BAT) Ignition switch off 6 kΩ or higher
      D47-14 (CANL) - D47-16 (BAT) Ignition switch off 6 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of DLC3

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BRANCH WIRE CONNECTED TO DLC3 (CANH, CANL) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CONNECT CONNECTOR 
    1. Reconnect the D55 No. 2 junction connector.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK FOR SHORT TO B+ IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR SIDE) 
    1. Disconnect the D59 No. 1 junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D47-6 (CANH) - D47-16 (BAT) Ignition switch off 6 kΩ or higher
      D47-14 (CANL) - D47-16 (BAT) Ignition switch off 6 kΩ or higher

  5. CHECK FOR SHORT TO B+ IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - ECM)
