Open in CAN Main Wire: Procedure

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal before measuring the resistances of the CAN main wire and CAN branch wire.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected, refer to INITIALIZATION .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - DLC3) 
    1. Disconnect the D55 No. 2 junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D55-4 (CANH) - D47-6 (CANH) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      D55-15 (CANL) - D47-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to No. 2 Junction Connector)
      *b Front view of DLC3

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BRANCH WIRE CONNECTED TO DLC3 (CANH, CANL) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D55-1 (CANH) - D55-12 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to No. 2 Junction Connector)

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D55-6 (CANH) - D55-17 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to No. 2 Junction Connector)

    NG → See step   5 

    OK → REPLACE NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR 

  5. CONNECT CONNECTOR 
    1. Reconnect the D55 No. 2 junction connector.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the E1 combination meter assembly connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E1-25 (CANH) - E1-26 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Combination Meter Assembly)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN MAIN WIRE CONNECTED TO COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (CANH, CANL) 

    OK → See step   12 

  7. CONNECT CONNECTOR 
    1. Reconnect the D55 No. 2 junction connector.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the D59 No. 1 junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D59-7 (CANH) - D59-18 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      (to No. 1 Junction Connector)

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D59-5 (CANH) - D59-16 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

      (to No. 1 Junction Connector)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN MAIN WIRE OR CONNECTOR (NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 

    OK → REPLACE NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR 

  10. CONNECT CONNECTOR 
    1. Reconnect the D59 No. 1 junction connector.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the D73 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D73-25 (CA1H) - D73-24 (CA1L) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN MAIN WIRE CONNECTED TO ECM (CANH, CANL) 

    OK → See step   13 

  12. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  13. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
