DTC U1002: Lost Communication with Gateway Module (MS Bus): Procedure

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal before measuring the resistances of the CAN main wire and CAN branch wire.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected, refer to INITIALIZATION .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CAN BUS WIRE (CHECK MAIN WIRE FOR DISCONNECTION, CHECK BUS LINE FOR SHORT CIRCUIT) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition Resistance: Malfunction
      O24-1 (CANH) - O24-2 (CANL) Ignition switch off 54 to 69 Ω Below 54 Ω: Short in line
      O24-1 (CANH) - O24-2 (CANL) Ignition switch off 54 to 69 Ω Higher than 69 Ω: Open in CAN main bus line
      O24-1 (CANH) - D47-16 (BAT) Ignition switch off 6 kΩ or higher Below 6 kΩ: +B short
      O24-2 (CANL) - D47-16 (BAT) Ignition switch off 6 kΩ or higher Below 6 kΩ: +B short
      O24-1 (CANH) - D47-4 (CG) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or higher Below 200 Ω: Ground short
      O24-2 (CANL) - D47-4 (CG) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or higher Below 200 Ω: Ground short

  3. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 3 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the D80 No. 3 junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D80-11 (CANH) - D80-2 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 3 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - MAIN BODY ECU) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  5. CONNECT CONNECTOR 
    1. Reconnect the D80 No. 3 junction connector.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR - NO. 3 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the O24 CAN junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      O24-1 (CANH) - O24-2 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN MAIN WIRE OR CONNECTOR (CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR - NO. 3 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 

    OK → REPLACE CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR 

  7. CONNECT CONNECTOR 
    1. Reconnect the D80 No. 3 junction connector.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (MAIN BODY ECU - NO. 3 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the D9 main body ECU (instrument panel junction block assembly) connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      D9-16 (CANP) - D9-15 (CANN) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN MAIN WIRE CONNECTED TO MAIN BODY ECU (MAIN BODY ECU - NO. 3 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 

    OK → REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 

  9. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 3 JUNCTION CONNECTOR SIDE) 
    1. Disconnect the D80 No. 3 junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      D80-11 (CANH) - D47-4 (CG) Ignition switch off 200 Ω or higher

    1. Disconnect the O24 CAN junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  14. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRE (CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR - POWER BACK DOOR ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the O21 CAN junction connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

  15. CONNECT CONNECTOR 
    1. Reconnect the O21 and O24 CAN junction connectors.

  16. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRE (POWER BACK DOOR ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the O15 back door motor unit (power back door ECU) connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  18. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRE (TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the D33 tire pressure monitor ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Disconnect the D9 main body ECU (instrument panel junction block assembly) connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  21. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected, refer to INITIALIZATION .

    2. Disconnect the 1D, 1F, 1M and D9 main body ECU (instrument panel junction block assembly) connectors.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1F-10 (GND1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      1M-9 (GND2) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      D9-1 (GND3) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1D-16 (ALTB) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 

  22. REPLACE BACK DOOR MOTOR UNIT (POWER BACK DOOR ECU). Refer to  REMOVAL 
  23. REPLACE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
