DTC B1660/43: Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator Circuit Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION 
    1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    2. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      HINT: 

      Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .

      Result

      ON/OFF Indicator Illumination Proceed to
      Always ON A
      OFF B

    B → See step   10 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and the clock assembly.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the clock assembly.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and clock assembly side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR 
    1. Connect the connector to the clock assembly.
    2. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    4. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      OK

      The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly.

    2. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B1660/43 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   19 

    OK → See step   21 

  6. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (OPEN) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the connector from the clock assembly.
    4. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F3-13 (PAON) - F3-14 (P-AB) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F3-13 (PAON) - F3-14 (P-AB) Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F3-13 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      F3-14 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F3-13 (PAON) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      F3-14 (P-AB) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) Below 1 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK → See step   22 

  10. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and the clock assembly.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the clock assembly.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and clock assembly side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (OPEN) 
    1. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F3-13 (PAON) - F3-14 (P-AB) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F3-13 (PAON) - F3-14 (P-AB) Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  14. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F3-13 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      F3-14 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  15. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F3-13 (PAON) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      F3-14 (P-AB) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) Below 1 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  16. CHECK CLOCK ASSEMBLY (SOURCE VOLTAGE) 
    1. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly.

    2. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F3-3 (IG) -Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 10 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS (CLOCK ASSEMBLY - BATTERY) OR BATTERY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  17. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON / OFF INDICATOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Connect the connector to the clock assembly.
    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly.
    5. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    6. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    7. Check the indicator according to the conditions in the table below.

      Result

      Tester Connection Condition Passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator
      E30-23 (PAON) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) "ON" comes on
      E30-17 (P-AB) - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) "OFF" comes on

    NG → See step   20 

    OK: Go to next step 

  18. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly.
    4. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    6. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    7. Turn the ignition switch off.
    8. Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    9. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B1660/43 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   19 

    OK → See step   21 

  19. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  20. REPLACE CLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  21. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM 
  22. REPLACE CLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
