DTC P0335: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ENGINE SPD) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / All Data / Engine Speed.
    5. Put the engine in inspection mode. Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE .
    6. Read the values displayed on the Techstream while the engine is running.

      Standard

      Correct values are displayed.

      HINT: 

      • To check the engine speed change, display the graph on the Techstream.
      • If the engine does not start, check the engine speed while cranking.
      • If the engine speed indicated on the Techstream remains zero (0), there may be an open or short in the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor circuit.

    OK → See step   8 

    NG: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (RESISTANCE) 
    1. Disconnect the C20 CKP sensor connector.

    2. Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connections Conditions Specified Conditions
      1 - 2 Cold 985 to 1,600 Ω
      1 - 2 Hot 1,265 to 1,890 Ω

      HINT: 

      Terms "cold" and "hot" refer to the temperature of the sensor. "Cold" means approximately -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F). "Hot" means approximately 50 to 100°C (122 to 212°F).

    3. Reconnect the CKP sensor connector.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the C20 CKP sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the C64 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connections Condition Specified Conditions
      C20-1 - C64-69 (NE+) Always Below 1 Ω
      C20-2 - C64-68 (NE-) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connections Condition Specified Conditions
      C20-1 or C64-69 (NE+) - Body ground Always 10 k Ωor higher
      C20-2 or C64-68 (NE-) - Body ground Always 10 k Ωor higher
    4. Reconnect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Reconnect the CKP sensor connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (SENSOR INSTALLATION) 
    1. Check the CKP sensor installation.

      OK

      Sensor is installed correctly.

    NG → SECURELY REINSTALL SENSOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE (TEETH OF SENSOR PLATE) 
    1. Check the teeth on the sensor plate.

      OK

      Sensor plate does not have any cracks or deformation.

    NG → REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR 
    1. Replace the crankshaft position sensor. Refer to REMOVAL .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Put the engine in inspection mode. Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE .
    6. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Code.
    7. Read the DTCs.

      Result

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      No output A
      P0335 B

      HINT: 

      If the engine does not start, replace the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    B → See step   10 

    A → END 

  8. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
  9. REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  10. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
