DTC P0516-769: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0517-770: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Check the connections of the battery temperature sensor connector.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT BATTERY (BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the O24 battery thermometer sensor connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Temperature Specified Condition
      THB (O24-2) - E2 (O24-1) 0°C (32°F) 5.0 to 5.3 kΩ
      20°C (68°F) 2.3 to 2.5 kΩ
      40°C (104°F) 1.1 to 1.3 kΩ

      HINT: 

      The battery thermometer sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the battery.

    NG → REPLACE AUXILIARY BATTERY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) See step   3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the A61 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      THB (A61-83) - THB (O24-2) Below 1 Ω
      EIB (A61-84) - E2 (O24-1) Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      THB (A61-83) or THB (O24-2) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more
      EIB (A61-84) or E2 (O24-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      THB (A61-83) or THB (O24-2) - Body ground Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
    1. Check for intermittent problems. Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS .

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA 

    OK → See step   6 

  6. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
