DTC P0A84-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Cooling Fan 1: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CHECK FOR DTCS (DTC P0A1F-123 IS OUTPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      DTC P0A1F-123 is output.

    YES → GO TO INSPECTION PROCEDURE RELEVANT TO OUTPUT DTC 

    NO: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.

      HINT: 

      Check "Cooling Fan Mode 1" in the data list using the Techstream. If the "Cooling Fan Mode 1" is 1 to 6, it is not necessary to perform the Active Test.

    4. Select air volume mode 6 in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" active test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    5. Check that the fan operates and air is sucked into the inlet duct of the package tray trim panel assembly.

      HINT: 

      The cooling fan may not stop even when turning the cooling fan off in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" active test. This is due to HV system control and not a malfunction.

      OK

      The fan operates.

    OK → See step   14 

    NG: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK FUSE (BATT FAN) 
    1. Measure the resistance of the BATT FAN fuse.

      Standard resistance

      Below 1 Ω

    OK → See step   7 

    NG: Go to next step 

  4. REPLACE FUSE (BATT FAN) 

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATT FAN FUSE - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the BATT FAN fuse from the engine room R/B.
    2. Remove the BATT FAN relay from the engine room R/B.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      BATT FAN fuse 2 or BATT FAN relay 3 or 1 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      NOTE:

      When taking measurements with an electrical tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probes to avoid damaging the fuse holder or terminals.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the front luggage compartment trim cover. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Disconnect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IG0 (N38-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   16 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VOLTAGE) 
    1. Remove the front luggage compartment trim cover. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IG0 (N38-1) - GND0 (N38-4) 10 to 14 V

    OK → See step   12 

    NG: Go to next step 

  8. INSPECT RELAY (BATT FAN) 
    1. Remove the BATT FAN relay from the engine room R/B.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      3 - 5 10 kΩ or higher
      3 - 5 Below 1 Ω (Apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2)

    NG → REPLACE RELAY (BATT FAN) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATT FAN FUSE - BATT FAN RELAY) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      BATT FAN fuse 2 - BATT FAN relay 1 Below 1 Ω
      BATT FAN fuse 2 - BATT FAN relay 3 Below 1 Ω
      NOTE:

      When taking measurements with an electrical tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probes to avoid damaging the fuse holder or terminals.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATT FAN RELAY - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect connector A61 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      BATT FAN relay 2 - FCTL (A61-27) Below 1 Ω
      NOTE:

      When taking measurements with an electrical tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probes to avoid damaging the fuse holder or terminals.

    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      BATT FAN relay 2 or FCTL (A61-27) - Body ground Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      When taking measurements with an electrical tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probes to avoid damaging the fuse holder or terminals.

      HINT: 

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATT FAN RELAY - BATTERY COOLING BLOWER) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      BATT FAN relay 5 - IG0 (N38-1) Below 1 Ω
      NOTE:

      When taking measurements with an electrical tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probes to avoid damaging the fuse holder or terminals.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   18 

  12. CHECK WAVEFORM 
    1. Install the BATT FAN fuse to the engine room R/B.
    2. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    3. Connect an oscilloscope between connector terminals 3 (SI0) and 4 (GND0) of the battery cooling blower assembly.
    4. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    6. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.
    7. Select air volume mode 1 to 6 in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" active test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    8. Measure the waveform.

      Item Contents
      Terminal CH1: SI0 (N38-3) - GND0 (N38-4)
      Equipment Setting 1 V/DIV., 500 μs/DIV.
      Condition Power switch on (IG) or Power switch on (READY)

      HINT: 

      • A and B in the DUTY waveform shown in the illustration vary depending on the cooling fan mode.
      • The actual duty command value is influenced by variance in fan motors and the change of power supply voltage.

    OK → See step   17 

    NG: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect connector A61 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      SI0 (N38-3) - SI0 (A61-46) Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      SI0 (N38-3) or SI0 (A61-46)- Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   18 

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER - BATTERY SMART UNIT) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Remove the service plug grip. Refer to REMOVAL .
    2. Remove the battery smart unit. Refer to REMOVAL .
    3. Disconnect connector n2 from the battery smart unit.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      VM0 (N38-2) - VM (n2-8) Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      VM0 (N38-2) or VM (n2-8) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  15. CHECK BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY (VOLTAGE) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / HV ECU / ACTIVE TEST / COOLING FAN SPD.

      HINT: 

      Check COOLING FAN MODE1 in the DATA LIST using the Techstream. If the COOLING FAN MODE1 is 1 to 6, it is not necessary to perform the ACTIVE TEST.

    4. Select the following menu items: USER DATA / VMF FAN VOLT 1.
    5. Select each air volume mode (1 to 6) in the COOLING FAN SPD active test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    6. While the cooling fan is operating, compare the value in the user data (VMF FAN VOLT 1) with the voltage value that was actually measured at the battery cooling blower assembly connector.

      Standard

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      N38-2 - N38-4 There is no difference between the value in the data list (cooling fan voltage) and the voltage value that was actually measured at the battery cooling blower assembly connector.

      OK

      Difference of voltage is 1 V or less.

    NG → See step   19 

    OK → See step   17 

  16. REPLACE BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  17. REPLACE BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  18. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  19. REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT. Refer to  REMOVAL
