DTC U0110-159: Lost Communication with Driver Motor Control Module; DTC U0110-160: Lost Communication with Driver Motor Control Module; DTC U0110-656: Lost Communication with Driver Motor Control Module; DTC U0110-657: Lost Communication with Driver Motor Control Module: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CLEAR DTC (HV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
    4. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    5. Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  2. RECONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      DTC U0110-159, 160, 656 or 657 is output.

    NO → See step   13 

    YES: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Turn the power switch off and remove the service plug grip. Refer to PRECAUTION .
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the A62 inverter with converter assembly connector.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      GND1 (A62-11) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
      GND2 (A62-10) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG).

      Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      +B (A62-31) - Body ground 10 to 14 V
      +B2 (A62-30) - Body ground 10 to 14 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV CONTROL ECU - INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the A61 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      CLK+ (A61-110) - Body ground Below 1 V
      CLK- (A61-109) - Body ground Below 1 V
      REQ+ (A61-112) - Body ground Below 1 V
      REQ- (A61-111) - Body ground Below 1 V
      HTM+ (A61-92) - Body ground Below 1 V
      HTM- (A61-91) - Body ground Below 1 V
      MTH+ (A61-90) - Body ground Below 1 V
      MTH- (A61-89) - Body ground Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly or hybrid vehicle control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      CLK+ (A61-110) - CLK+ (A62-28) Below 1 Ω
      CLK- (A61-109) - CLK- (A62-19) Below 1 Ω
      REQ+ (A61-112) - REQ+ (A62-25) Below 1 Ω
      REQ- (A61-111) - REQ- (A62-16) Below 1 Ω
      HTM+ (A61-92) - HTM+ (A62-26) Below 1 Ω
      HTM- (A61-91) - HTM- (A62-17) Below 1 Ω
      MTH+ (A61-90) - MTH+ (A62-24) Below 1 Ω
      MTH- (A61-89) - MTH- (A62-15) Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      CLK+ (A61-110) or CLK+ (A62-28) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more
      CLK- (A61-109) or CLK- (A62-19) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more
      REQ+ (A61-112) or REQ+ (A62-25) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more
      REQ- (A61-111) or REQ- (A62-16) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more
      HTM+ (A61-92) or HTM+ (A62-26) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more
      HTM- (A61-91) or HTM- (A62-17) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more
      MTH+ (A61-90) or MTH+ (A62-24) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more
      MTH- (A61-89) or MTH- (A62-15) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      CLK+ (A62-28) - CLK- (A62-19) 109 to 139 Ω
      REQ+ (A62-25) - REQ- (A62-16) 109 to 139 Ω
      HTM+ (A62-26) - HTM- (A62-17) 109 to 139 Ω
      MTH+ (A62-24) - MTH- (A62-15) 109 to 139 Ω

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Connect the inverter with converter assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the A61 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      CLK+ (A61-110) - CLK- (A61-109) 109 to 139 Ω
      REQ+ (A61-112) - REQ- (A61-111) 109 to 139 Ω
      HTM+ (A61-92) - HTM- (A61-91) 109 to 139 Ω
      MTH+ (A61-90) - MTH- (A61-89) 109 to 139 Ω

    NG → See step   15 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK NOISE SOURCE 

    HINT: 

    Using non-genuine parts may cause electrical noise to be introduced.

    Result

    Electrical noise is introduced.

    YES → REPAIR OR REPLACE NOISE SOURCE 

    NO: Go to next step 

  10. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  11. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  12. RECONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      DTC U0110-159, 160, 656 or 657 is output.

    YES → See step   15 

    NO → COMPLETED 

  13. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
  14. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  15. REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
