DTC P0715: Input / Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction; DTC P0717: Input Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal: Procedure

  1. INSPECT TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION) 
    1. Remove the valve body assembly.
    2. Make sure that the connector is properly connected, and check the speed sensor installation. Refer to INSTALLATION .

      OK

      The installation bolt is tightened properly and there is no clearance between the sensor and transaxle case.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT TRANSMISSION WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the speed sensor connector from the transmission wire.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 (NTB) sensor side - A-1 (NTB) wiring harness connector side Always Below 1 Ω
      2 (NTO) sensor side - A-2 (NTO) wiring harness connector side Always Below 1 Ω
      1 (NTB) sensor side - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (NTO) sensor side - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Transmission Wire)
      *b Wiring Harness Connector Side
      *c Sensor Side

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E8-1 (NTB) - E26-116 (NTB) Always Below 1 Ω
      E8-2 (NTO) - E26-115 (NTO) Always Below 1 Ω
      E8-1 (NTB) or E26-116 (NTB) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E8-2 (NTO) or E26-115 (NTO) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR 
    1. Remove the wiring harness connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E8-1 (NTB) - A-1 (NTB) Always Below 1 Ω
      E8-2 (NTO) - A-2 (NTO) Always Below 1 Ω
      E8-1 (NTB) - All other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E8-2 (NTO) - All other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Wiring Harness Connector)
      *b ECM Side
      *c Transmission Wire Side

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR 

    Refer to COMPONENTS

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK IF DTC OUTPUT RECURS (SEE IF DTC P0715 AND/OR P0717 OUTPUT AGAIN) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      HINT: 

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

    4. Perform the monitor drive pattern. Refer to MONITOR DRIVE PATTERN .
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    6. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      Only "P0715 or P0717" is output A
      No output B

  7. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  8. REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  9. REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  10. REPLACE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR. Refer to  COMPONENTS
