MIL Circuit: Procedure

- CHECK THAT MIL IS ILLUMINATED
- Perform troubleshooting in accordance with the table below:

Conditions Proceed to MIL remains ON A MIL does not illuminate B

- Perform troubleshooting in accordance with the table below:
- CHECK WHETHER MIL TURNS OFF
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Code.
- Check if any DTCs have been stored. Note down any DTCs.
- Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
- Check if the MIL goes off.
Standard
MIL goes off.

- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CHECK FOR SHORT IN WIRE HARNESS)
- Disconnect the ECM connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Check that the MIL is not illuminated.
OK
MIL is not illuminated.
Result
Result Proceed to NG A OK B - Reconnect the ECM connector.

- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - ECM)
- Disconnect the ECM connector.
- Disconnect the combination meter connector.
- Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance (Check for short)
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition A55-24 (W) or F2-4 (CHK) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the ECM connector.
- Reconnect the combination meter connector.
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
- CHECK THAT MIL IS ILLUMINATED
- Check if the MIL is illuminated when the ignition switch is turned to ON.
OK
MIL is illuminated.

B → SYSTEM OK

- Check if the MIL is illuminated when the ignition switch is turned to ON.
- CHECK THAT ENGINE STARTS
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Start the engine.

*: The Techstream cannot communicate with the ECM.

- INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (MIL CIRCUIT)
- Check the MIL circuit. Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE .
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
OK → CHECK AND REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - ECM)
- REPAIR CIRCUITS INDICATED BY OUTPUT DTCS. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
- REPLACE ECM. Refer to REMOVAL
- GO TO VC OUTPUT CIRCUIT. Refer to VC Output Circuit
