Cranking Holding Function Circuit: Procedure

- READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STA SIGNAL)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Starter Signal. Read the values.
- Check the result when the ignition switch is turned ON and when the engine is started.

- INSPECT ECM (STSW VOLTAGE)
- Disconnect the ECM Connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Measure the voltage between the terminals of the ECM connector and body ground while cranking the engine.
Standard voltage
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition A55-14 (STSW) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V - Reconnect the ECM connector.
NG → See step 11
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT ECM (STAR VOLTAGE)
- Remove the ST CUT relay from the engine room R/B.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Measure the voltage between the terminals of the engine room R/B and body ground while cranking the engine.
Standard voltage
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition ST CUT relay (3) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V - Reinstall the ST CUT relay.
NG → See step 8
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT ST CUT RELAY
- Remove the ST CUT relay from the engine room R/B.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Standard resistance
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 - 5 Always 10 kΩ or higher 3 - 5 Always Below 1 Ω
(when battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2) - Reinstall the ST CUT relay.
NG → REPLACE ST CUT RELAY
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY
- Inspect the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch.
NG → See step 13
OK → CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
- INSPECT STARTER RELAY
- Remove the ST relay from the engine room R/B.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Standard resistance
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 - 5 Always 10 kΩ or higher 3 - 5 Always Below 1 Ω
(when battery voltage applied between terminals 1 and 2) - Reinstall the ST relay.
NG → REPLACE STARTER RELAY
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ST RELAY)
- Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
- Remove the ST relay from the engine room R/B.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Standard resistance (Check for open)
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition C1-9 - ST relay terminal (1) Always Below 1 Ω Standard resistance (Check for open)
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition C1-9 or ST relay terminal (1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher - Reinstall the ST relay.
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT ENGINE ROOM RELAY BLOCK (ST RELAY VOLTAGE)
- Remove the ST relay from the engine room R/B.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Measure the voltage between the terminals of the engine room R/B and body ground.
Standard voltage
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition ST relay (5) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT STARTER ASSEMBLY
- Inspect the starter assembly. Refer to INSPECTION .
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE STARTER ASSEMBLY
OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - STARTER, STARTER - BATTERY)
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - ECM)
- Disconnect the main body ECU connector.
- Disconnect the ECM connector.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Standard resistance (Check for open)
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition E9-4 (STSW) - A55-14 (STSW) Always Below 1 Ω Standard resistance (Check for short)
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition E9-4 (STSW) or A55-14 (STSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the main body ECU connector.
- Reconnect the ECM connector.
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK → GO TO SMART KEY SYSTEM
- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
- REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to REMOVAL
