DTC P0791: Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor "A" Circuit; DTC P0793: Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor "A": Procedure

  1. INSPECT SPEED SENSOR (SENSOR INSTALLATION) 
    1. Remove the valve body assembly.
    2. Make sure that the connector is properly connected, and check the speed sensor installation.

      OK

      The installation bolts are tightened properly and there is no clearance between the sensor and transaxle case.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT TRANSMISSION WIRE 
    1. Remove the TCM.

    2. Disconnect the speed sensor connector from the transmission wire.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Condition Condition Specified Condition
      3 (NCO) sensor side - 3 (NCO) TCM side Always Below 1 Ω
      4 (NCB) sensor side - 4 (NCB) TCM side Always Below 1 Ω
      3 (NCO) sensor side - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      4 (NCB) sensor side - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      3 (NCO) sensor side - All other terminals except 4 (NCB) sensor side Always 10 kΩ or higher
      4 (NCB) sensor side - All other terminals except 3 (NCO) sensor side Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. REPLACE SPEED SENSOR 
    1. Refer to REMOVAL .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK IF DTC OUTPUT RECURS (SEE IF DTC P0791 AND/OR P0793 IS OUTPUT AGAIN) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Enter the following menus: / ECT / DTC / Clear.

      HINT: 

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

    4. Perform the monitor drive pattern. Refer to MONITOR DRIVE PATTERN .
    5. Enter the following menus: / ECT / DTC.
    6. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      Only "P0791 or P0793" is output A
      No output B

    B → END

  5. REPLACE TCM. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  6. REPAIR OR REPLACE SPEED SENSOR. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  7. REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE. Refer to  REMOVAL
